My law firm has a localized focus on representation of individuals and families.
I have been practicing law in Forest Hills, Queens County, for almost 30 years. I have been at the same office location for 25 years. I am a Member of the Bankruptcy Committee of the Queens County Bar Association.
After graduation from law school I worked for two Manhattan law firms. The first was Moskowitz & Passman and the second was Gladstein & Isaac. Both of these were litigation firms.
I am on the Board of Directors of the Trey Whitfield Foundation, which is a Brooklyn based charitable organization dedicated to providing educational and recreational opportunities to needy children and teens.
I am strongly in favor of my clients doing research about legal issues. It makes it easier to help them. Often clients have identified issues that may apply to them which I can help to solve. Clients who actively participate in their own cases tend to have their matter proceed more smoothly and obtain better results.
In general, it is not cost-efficient for me to review documents prepared by my clients. Instead I prefer to work with the clients to prepare well crafted documents.
I am not willing to coach clients. The new bankruptcy code is complex and the risk is too high for clients to represent themselves.
What is important to me is the ability to help individuals, and a career in law allows me to do that.
I have lived in New York my entire life. I feel that I share a common experience with many of my clients and am well equipped to relate to their needs and requirements.
I chose this area of practice because I was inspired by my law school bankruptcy professor.
What I like best about my career is when a client tells me that I have helped to change his or her life. I enjoy helping individuals retain their self esteem while facing the relentless pressure applied by institutions such as lenders, collection agencies and credit reporting agencies.
I am a solo practitioner, so clients deal only with me or my assistant, Suzanne, who is very warm and great with people.
One of my strengths is the practical application of bankruptcy and non- bankruptcy law to each individual client's personal situation.
I like to read, travel, ski and spend time with my family.
