Firm Focus and History

Our firm focuses on personal attention to our clients and aggressive representation in court. We have always concentrated on criminal defense. We pride ourselves in providing high quality and attentive service to our clients. People come to us in times of need and distress. It is our desire to make our client's lives easier. We want our clients to be able to call us and discuss their cases. We want to alleviate their concerns, and to successfully resolve their cases.

Our firm was established by Allan Gorelick, my father, 35 years ago. It has been a family business since that time. We take pride in that fact, and treat our clients like family. Always located in Hayward, we handle cases throughout Alameda and Contra Costa County.

Previous Employment Summary

I have been a lawyer since 1983, when I joined the family firm. Prior to that, I worked for the Alameda County Public Defender's office as a law clerk while in law school.

Activities and Awards

I am the Vice President of the California DUI Lawyers Association. I have been a board member of that organization for the last 15 years. I am an active member in the National College of DUI Defense, National Association of Criminal Law Attorneys, California Attorneys for Criminal Justice and the California Public Defenders Association. I have lectured for the Women's Lawyers Association and done training for the Alameda County Public Defender's office. Additionally, I have served as a Judge Pro Tem in the Alameda County Superior Court.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I always appreciate clients who have questions regarding their cases. There is a tremendous amount of information available online. I am always happy to assist with concerns or apprehensions.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

While this doesn't happen often, I readily encourage clients to provide me with photographs, documents and statements that will assist in the preparation of their cases.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I do not charge anyone for an initial consultation. If I can help them go forward on their own, I readily suggest this.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I come from a family of lawyers. My father, Allan Gorelick, has practiced law since 1967. My uncle and brother are also lawyers. Our family has always instilled a deep sense of justice in all of us. I feel strongly that everyone deserves a right to be heard and an opportunity to tell their side of the story. Being a criminal defense lawyer allows me to help those in difficult situations in a way that is consistent with these values.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I have always been involved in public service. I believe that a commitment to the community provides a broader understanding of others' circumstances. I have worked in various capacities as an attorney - always on the side of the defense - and in my pre-lawyer years, in retail sales and restaurants.

I have practiced DUI and criminal defense for over 25 years. My experience and reputation afford my clients greater opportunity for success with their cases. I know the judges and prosecutors. I have litigated cases and have cross-examined police officers from almost every jurisdiction in northern California. It is certainly to my client's advantage to have my experience on their side.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I have always found DUI and criminal law the most challenging areas of practice. Laws change often in this area and I enjoy the opportunity this affords me to continue my education. Criminal law changes constantly. You must be on your toes! This is my area of the law, and I do all I can to provide outstanding service to my clients.

What do you like best about your career?

I enjoy being able to help people who are in need of counsel and advice. A tremendous number of my clients are referred by present of past clients. This is the best thing that a lawyer can ask for. I treat each case individually and appreciate the confidence that my clients have in my capabilities.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am a solo practitioner, and never take on more cases than I can handle. Thus, every client gets my full, personal attention. My staff has worked with me between six and twenty years; they are diligent, responsible, and who are attentive to my client's needs. I strive to return calls personally after my court appearances.

What are your strengths and style?

I am well known in the legal community, not only on a local level, but throughout the State of California, as well as nationally. I take a personal interest in all of my clients' cases. I am a "hands on" attorney who will always take the extra step to make certain that all bases of my client's defenses are covered. Your case will not be handled by anyone but me. Please read my testimonials on www.gorelick-law.com for personal notes from clients.

Personal Interests:

I am involved in community activities and am an avid equestrian. I have a horse that my daughters and I show in competition. My husband and I enjoy cooking and wine tasting, as well as traveling, when possible.

Understanding Fees

Nolo's Licensing Check

Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the applicable bar associations upon joining the directory.

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any bar association.
