For the first five years of my practice, starting in late 1979, I had a general practice that included litigation, family law, bankruptcy, wills and trusts. For the past twenty-five years my practice has been limited to the United States Bankruptcy Courts representing debtors in both liquidating bankruptcies and bankruptcy reorganizations. In addition, I represent trustees in bankruptcy and, on occasion, secured creditors.
Restaurants: bartender, waiter, and restaurant manager.

No problem - but clients must be able to recognize when they need the assistance of an attorney. If they cannot, or will not, make that assessment the results can be devastating.
I rarely will review documents prepared by clients because there is a great deal more to "lawyering" than just reviewing documents.

Perry Mason. I thought the life of a trial lawyer would be exciting, but as things turned out I rarely get into trial.
I am a compassionate, empathetic individual. How I got there I cannot say.
Accident. The bankruptcy law was completely revised in 1979 when I was just starting to practice. I was willing to learn the new law whereas many of the "old-timers" were not.
I love what I do because I am able to help people who think they are beyond help. Very satisfying work.
Solo practitioner, so all my clients deal directly with me. I have a wonderful assistant who is attentive to all of my clients' immediate needs.
Compassion. Direct and to the point. Able to quickly assess a client's needs. If I don't believe someone should file for bankruptcy I will tell them and in most instances I will recommend another course of action.
"My family," and occasionally woodworking.

Yes, but I will often ask the client to make a donation to the Redwood Empire Food Bank. The amount of the donation is left to the client.
