Firm Focus and History

I opened my law office in 2000 to focus on family law issues, personal injury cases, estate planning and administration. I consider my law office to be a "boutique firm," where the client can always have immediate contact with me. For this reason, I provide my email address and cell phone number on my business card. It is not unusual to speak to clients on the weekends, after hours or on holidays.

Previous Employment Summary

I worked as an associate with the law firm of Harris, Perisho, and Woodson, in Stockton, California, from 1996 until 2000.

Activities and Awards

I am a self-employed practitioner.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I always encourage my clients to become familiar with the law and how it impacts them. I provide my clients with an electronic newsletter with legal updates so that they are informed of changes in the law.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I think it is important to listen to the clients and understand their concerns or needs. To that end, I think it is important to review documents clients have provided in order to get a better understanding of my clients and the issues they face. In this way, I can better represent my clients.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Cases of self-representation become problematic. Generally, if clients want to represent themselves, I encourage them to become very familiar with the law and issues they are facing. However, just as a doctor would not coach a patient to perform surgery on him/herself, I can not coach a client through every variable that may occur in court. In fact, for liability reasons, I am precluded from such activity.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I thoroughly enjoy the advocacy process and the ability to help individuals who need it. Being a lawyer provides me with the ability to right a wrong, to correct an abuse, to seek equitable relief for my client and to do all of these things in a legal, moral, and ethical manner. That is my charge and that is my commitment.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I constantly seek to become familiar with changes in the law and for that reason, I strive to take as much continuing education as possible. After ten years in practice, I believe that I have a breadth of work experiences to draw from to better assist my clients.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I chose areas of the law in which I felt I could have the biggest impact. I enjoy working with people and these areas provide me with much client contact. Some areas of law are very clinical and removed form the everyday experiences that people have. I want to be a part of my clients' lives by helping them or getting the relief they want.

What do you like best about your career?

I like getting results for my clients. I enjoy the satisfaction that my clients feel once a case has been completed knowing that to some degree, I assisted in that result.
