Continuing Education

I regularly exceed the required amount of continuing legal education hours. In 2007 alone I attended over 40 hours of seminars focused on Estate Planning and Taxes.

Example Cases

Most of our matters deal with assisting clients in developing their estate plan. We begin with a planning meeting where we educate our clients on estate planning issues, discuss their desires and goals, explain the options which they have and make suggestions for accomplishing their goals and desires. We discuss retirement planning considerations, beneficiary designations, tax planning, life insurance planning, special needs, medical and disability issues, etc. After we have prepared the documents, we review the documents extensively with our clients so that they understand how their documents are set up, including the documents' provisions, and then we answer the client's questions. We also assist our clients in funding the trust by transferring assets into the trust to make sure the process is complete.

Firm Focus and History

I started my own firm in 1998 after working for several years in a firm whose focus was business and civil litigation. My philosophy is centered on the notion that each client requires and deserves detail oriented, personal attention. All of my clients' needs and desires are given thoughtful consideration in order to provide the most beneficial legal advice possible to serve their best interest. I am committed to providing affordable, high quality legal services for all my clients' needs.

Previous Employment Summary

Prior to obtaining my law degree, I worked as a financial analyst for SAIC for 7 years. Upon graduation from law school, I worked for several years in a firm focusing primarily on business and civil litigation.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I believe it is critical for clients to educate themselves so that they can gain a better understanding of what they may need, and what the attorney is recommending for them. A major part of my consultations with my clients is geared towards educating them so that they understand the process and can make intelligent decisions regarding their options for their estate planning needs.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Yes, we'll review documents prepared by clients, as it is a good starting point toward a comprehensive estate plan. We will also point out deficiencies.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I am available on an hourly basis at my hourly rate.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I enjoy the challenge that the law provides, but more importantly, I want to assist individuals.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

Growing up overseas has helped me be more sensitive to some of the cultural differences and needs of my clients. Additionally, working as a financial analyst for seven years has given me a broader perspective and understanding of the issues facing my business clients. It also helps in enabling my clients to balance the legal and economic issues that a business owner faces.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I enjoy estate planning and it gives me an opportunity to assist clients to plan and structure their estate to achieve their goals and desires.

What do you like best about your career?

The sense of accomplishment when I've assisted a client in completing their estate plan, and the sense of relief my clients express to me once they have completed or updated their estate plan.

Tell us about your law firm:

I have a small firm so that I can provide personal and individualized service to my clients. I have a wonderful assistant who is thorough, knowledgeable and sensitive to my clients' needs. She places my clients at ease and connects with them on a personal level which relaxes them and gives them a sense of confidence in the service we provide.

What are your strengths and style?

I have a small firm so that I can offer personalized service to my clients. My goal is to provide clients with a positive experience, to make them feel at ease and cared for.

Personal Interests:

I enjoy the outdoors, hiking, rock climbing, fishing with my children.
