Wills, Trusts & Estates
I enjoy serving all types of clients: single clients, married couples, families with children, same sex couples and domestic partnership couples, clients that want to provide for charities, and clients with special needs. I have clients ranging from 40 million in net assets to 100K in assets. I also have a fair amount of divorcing clients who have special needs during the interim period of separation and final divorce. We offer a special "parents with children" estate planning package which includes MUST HAVE guardianship documents.

I attend continuing education programs with a focus on estate planning, trust administration and probate on a regular basis and always exceed the required amount of continuing education.
Yes. I currently have two publications. I co-authored a chapter called "Power of Attorney and Health Care Directives: Overview and International Considerations" in CEB's (Continuing Education of the Bar) California Powers of Attorney and Health Care Directives. It describes the importance of durable power of attorney and advanced health care directives, which is an integral part of estate planning in preparing for the client's incapacity. Also, I authored a chapter called "Types of Wills" describing the requirements of a will and the different types of wills that one can create in his or her lifetime in Wealth Counsel's Estate Planning Strategies: Collective Wisdom Proven Techniques.
My typical estate planning engagements provide for an initial consultation (30 min) and design meeting (1 to 3 hours); and a signing ceremony (1 hour). The following are the four tenets to my design meetings:
1. Inform clients on estate and tax planning advantages, i.e. Community Property v. Separate Property
2. Identify client's personal and family goals
3. Integrate clients' vision into estate planning documents
4. Ignite excitement for proactive planning
These tenets will help me design a plan that is perfect for you and your family. We will spend time on what you envision for the future, including how your assets will pass to your designated loved ones and who will manage your assets for them. I can discuss everything, from guardian and trustee instructions, to incapacity provisions and business succession strategies.
Approximately four to six weeks after your Design Meeting, I will meet with you to review the completed estate planning documents. In this meeting, my goal is for you to feel comfortable with your documents. At the end of this meeting, you will formally sign your estate planning documents.
Thereafter, I will provide you with:
1. An original copy of your estate planning documents
2. A copy of your estate planning documents on a compact disc

Estate Planning is a proactive process that begins with my client's life and continues after my client's death. My commitment is to my client and his or her family. I will provide my client with the same vigor and standard of care I provide for my own family and friends. This is my mission.
My solo practice was formed in September of 2006 and our offices are located in mid-town Palo Alto, and Downtown San Francisco.
I practiced as an associate trusts and estates attorney at a prestigious Palo Alto law firm and I clerked for the California Superior Court in Alameda County for the Probate Department. I also worked for Andersen and for Ernst & Young's Personal Financial Consulting Group. My interest in residential real estate led me to become a licensed real estate broker.
It is great when clients already have an idea about the process of estate planning before they come to my office. I like to educate my clients as much as I can during our design meeting. If my clients are more familiar with the different topics that I will cover, I can provide a better discussion and address more of their questions. "Stump the Counselor" with questions. That's why I'm here.
Generally, I do not review self-prepared documents because the liability exposure for malpractice is significant.
I am willing to assist a client in representing themselves. My hourly fee will apply to consultation services. Clients are, of course, welcome to consult with me.
I enjoy working with individuals on their financial matters. I enjoy helping individuals realize their goals. In the estate planning field, I get the opportunity to meet new clients on a daily basis while gaining insight to their lives. I have the fortunate role of helping my clients to make some of the most important decisions of their lives, particularly to whom they will entrust their lives, material assets, and the care of their children, for the remainder of their lifetime or after their demise.
My clerkship with the probate department in the California Superior Court of Alameda provided me with the unique experience of witnessing how the judicial process of the probate department works. In addition, having lived in Germany and the Balkan Peninsula, I am fluent in several languages and assimilate well with different cultures and national backgrounds. I am very well traveled and genuinely love meeting new people and providing them with the best legal service possible. I am a mother of two and can appreciate the difficulties of the decision making process for my clients.
Tax law is ever-changing and as a continuous learner it always keeps my interest peaked. I enjoy the process of creating an estate plan, having the opportunity to serve a client from the inception at the initial consolation to the completion of the signing ceremony.
I love meeting people and getting to know them. Finding out what is important to them, what kind of legacy they wish to leave behind and how they live their lives are both interesting and educational. I genuinely feel that I help my clients in making the most important decisions of their lives.
I am a solo practitioner and my clients will principally deal directly with me. I also have two attorneys on staff who assist me with my caseload. Maria Bryson Whealan is an attorney and a member of the State Bar of New York and New Jersey. Prior to joining the Gadzo Law Firm, she was an associate at a law firm that specialized in wills, trusts & estates in Westchester County, New York. Evan Hyun is an attorney and a member of the State Bar of California. Evan focuses on wills, trusts and estates to provide expertise and assistance to families and individuals who are interested in estate planning. Prior to joining The Gadzo Law Firm, he was a law clerk at a firm in downtown San Francisco, which specialized in wills, trusts & estates. In addition, I have one paralegal, Brian Larson, who is readily available and very attentive to the needs of my clients. He works closely with attorneys and clients on the implementation of estate plans and stewarding estates through the administration process at death. Brian also handles a multitude of administrative functions, including client scheduling, and correspondence with financial institutions, government offices, and the courts.
I am a very outgoing person and I embrace my clients' needs by educating them about the estate planning process. My personalized planning process emphasizes education and implementation. I believe that education is paramount to understanding and developing the perfect plan for my clients and their families.

My typical fee for an estate plan preparation for a single person ranges from $1,600 to $5,000 and for married couples from $2,600 to $7,000. However, each client is unique and the price structure is based on the particular needs of the client, as such it is very difficult to fee schedule without knowing the specific details of the client's needs and goals.
$300.
Nolo Document Review: $300 per hour.
If so, for how long; if not, what do you charge: A free consultation is available and will customarily last one hour.
For estate planning, typically it is one-half of the project fee at the time of engagement and remainder at signing of the documents; for trust administrations, it is a typical retainer of $7,500.
Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the applicable bar associations upon joining the directory.
Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any bar association.
