I attend continuing education primarily in the areas I emphasize in my practice.
Clients are always informed that all cases are not taken to trial and that often negotiation and alternative sentencing often lead to the best result for the client. The last two cases that have gone to trial recently, a child molest case and a manslaughter case; have brought favorable results to each of the clients. It must be kept in mind that prosecutors in their wisdom file cases where they believe convictions are warranted where acquittals appear unlikely, and to achieve the best results for a client the decision to try a case has to be weighed heavily as to the punishment in the face of a possible better alternative.

My firm is dedicated to finding the solution in the best interest of the client utilizing every aspect of our expertise both through negotiation and in the Courthouse.
Our firm was established in 1977 when it became associated with two major labor-side labor firms. It was our job to handle all the individual legal needs of our large constituent union members. Services rendered included Criminal Law, Family Law, Administrative Law, Will Drafting, Will Contests, Juvenile Law, advice to the limit of our knowledge in areas of non-expertise and referrals where necessary. During the 1980's and into the 1990's we also had an extensive practice in the area of Personal Injury and Employment Law and expanded our firm to three lawyers and support personnel. During this time we were also called upon to further address clients' needs with regard to Appeals. In recent years the firm has down-sized but still maintains its relationship with the labor firms. In doing so, our emphasis has become mainly Criminal Law with Family and Administrative Law interspersed. We hope to continue these emphases henceforth.
I was first employed as an associate in a New York City law firm whose expertise was in the area of Construction and Military contracts when I graduated. Thereafter, I worked for N.L.S.P. in Washington D.C. and SFNLAF in San Francisco. Both were Federally funded Legal Services Agencies serving those who were unable to afford legal services and who often desperately were in need of such services. It was here that I was most able to fulfill my need to assist those who needed my help and was the basis for my interest in Criminal Law where people are always in need and often desperate to be helped. Thereafter, I began servicing the needs of union members. In my thirty plus years of experience I have taken cases involving every aspect of Criminal Law.
At one point, I was employed by a private company to evaluate Federally funded legal services programs. In the course of my career, I have done extensive pro-bono work both through the Bar Association and for individuals who were down on their luck, when possible.
The consequences of self-help in criminal cases can be quite devastating. The prosecutors are well-schooled and will take advantage of an unrepresented client. Therefore, we would always recommend employing an attorney.
We are always willing to review and advise as to documents prepared by clients, but, if such documents are going to be used in a Court proceeding we recommend that self-help cease at that time.
See above.
During my college years in my major, I was constantly reminded how the establishment of our country was based on individual rights and that those rights were constantly in dire need of protection by those who believed in them and had the zeal to go forth and render such protection.
While I was in college I worked construction and loaded trucks. I had first hand experience in how badly employees were treated on the job and the fact that they needed advocates on their behalf who cared. These experiences and others pushed me towards a legal career.
It took me a number of years to choose a primary emphasis in my practice I believe I've made my choice going back to the same reasons I chose the law, the protection of individual rights. Also, in my experience, my interest in Criminal Law has grown with each passing year as it has become the most enjoyable because of the relationships I've established with my clients and its effect on their lives.
What I like best about the practice are all the different people I meet day to day. There is no better feeling than to establish and enjoy the trust and confidence of clients, colleagues and the courts.
I am now a solo practitioner, so all of my clients deal with me directly.
My strengths as communicated to me by colleagues and adversaries are my abilities and presence in the courtroom and in negotiation. I would add the confidence that has increased with years of experience.
My personal interests are family, friends, staying healthy, and being highly informed. I also have interests in physical training and the environment.
