What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I think it's great if clients educate themselves on legal issues prior to retaining and/or speaking to an attorney.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I am always willing to review documents prepared by clients, but may advise the client that it may be more cost-effective for the attorney to prepare documents depending on the matter.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

My willingness to coach clients totally depends on the circumstances presented in simple cases where limited representation is appropriate. I may be willing to coach a client, however, I would not feel comfortable coaching a client to go to court, for example, when it would be expected by the judge and interested parties that I appear on my client's behalf. I would not want an undesirable outcome to occur due to my lack of presence.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

As a paralegal, I was fascinated by the law and I love working with people. I felt I could make a difference in people's lives during difficult times.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

Prior to becoming an attorney, I worked as a legal assistant and paralegal. I was responsible for caring for my husband's aunt for six years, where I learned fiduciary duties and care facility procedures. I've had many friends and relatives become ill and/or die during my lifetime.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I believed it would give me the opportunity to deal with and help people in need.

What do you like best about your career?

It is very versatile, challenging, and never boring!

Tell us about your law firm:

I have a very knowledgeable staff and clients are well taken care of. I often receive compliments on how caring and responsive my staff is.

What are your strengths and style?

I am very versatile and able to deal with all kinds of people and matters. I greatly value diversity and am compassionate to my clients' challenges.

Personal Interests:

Family and friends, pro bono activities, and educating the public about elder abuse issues.
