I am happy to speak with anyone who has a question about the SSI/SSDI application process. However, Social Security Disability cases are won and lost on the strength of medical records. Therefore, I only take cases where a person has medical records and preferably a treating physician who will cooperate in terms of providing records and writing a letter of support. San Francisco has many free and low cost health services available, and I would encourage anyone who believes they are suffering from a disability to seek out medical treatment and develop a relationship with a medical professional.

The cases I handle involve clients who have already filed an initial claim with the Social Security Administration and have been denied either at the initial or reconsideration level. I work with clients to gather medical records, complete the necessary SSA forms and ultimately compile all the information into a Legal Brief for submission to SSA. If a case is on Appeal to the SSA Hearing Office (ODAR), I extensively prepare my client for the hearing and zealously argue his/her claim before an Administrative Law Judge.

The complete focus of my firm is Social Security Disability Appeals work (SSI/SSDI).
After nearly three years of working as an Attorney for the Social Security Administration, I decided to "switch sides" and start my own Social Security practice in June 2005. I made this decision because I was frustrated by what I saw day after day while working at the Social Security Administration: Good people with strong Disability claims who were consistently denied for lack of a knowledgeable attorney who understands the intricacy of Social Security Disability Law. After nearly three years at the Social Security Administration, I realized that there was a great need for experienced, compassionate attorneys in the area of Social Security Disability Law, and it was my calling to meet that need.
I worked for nearly three years as an Attorney for the Social Security Administration, Regional Chief Administrative Law Judge in San Francisco, CA. I was assigned to a unit of Attorneys especially selected to work on the most complex SSI/SSDI claims in the Region. As such, I am quite well versed in Social Security Administrative law and procedure, and most importantly, the workings of the Administrative Law Judges and the Social Security Hearing (ODAR) and Field Offices. I also was an Attorney for the SSA Office of the General Counsel which handles SSA claims that are appealed to Federal Court, i.e., the Northern District of California and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Therefore, I am also knowledgeable in the area of Social Security Federal Appeals Law.
Member of the National Association of Social Security Claimants' Representatives (NOSSCR).
Knowledge is power. Unfortunately, the Social Security Appeals process is a frustratingly complicated maze. I make every effort to use my knowledge and experience to guide my clients through the process every step along the way, so that my clients ultimately feel empowered -- and not overpowered -- by the System.
The Social Security Administration requires a claimant complete numerous, complicated forms in order to file an Appeal. I make it a priority to provide, explain and review these forms with my clients before submission to SSA.
Unfortunately, I am not able to represent every client who contacts my office. However, I am happy to give general information and advice about the SSA process during an initial phone consultation.
I decided to become a lawyer because I have always had a desire to give a voice to those members of society who are silenced by the System.
As a former Disability Attorney for the Social Security Administration, I have seen first hand how the System works, and I draw on that experience every day to achieve the best results for my clients.
I chose to start my Social Security Disability practice because I have considerable experience in this area of the law. I felt that I had an obligation to use my expertise to help people.
The best thing about my work is that I am able to help people from all walks of life because disability does not discriminate. For example, my former clients have included a victim of Hurricane Katrina and a highly accomplished young attorney, both of whom were awarded Social Security Disability.
I am a solo practitioner, so all of my clients deal directly with me. Being closely involved in all aspects of my clients' claim is vital to a good outcome.
I am a good lawyer because I try to always balance my experience, knowledge and zeal for the law, with heartfelt compassion for my clients. Because under the morass of Social Security paperwork and mountains of medical records is a person in need, and even the most fiercely intelligent lawyer will lose her case if she loses sight of that fact.
When I am not working, I enjoy reading, exercising, and exploring the beauty and culture of the Bay Area.
