Firm Focus and History

Halpern Law Offices is a sole proprietorship in downtown San Jose, California. Daniel B. Halpern, is the owner and primary attorney.

Previous Employment Summary

I have been in private practice since graduating from law school in 1996. During school I worked as both a secretary and a paralegal for the San Jose Attorney's Office and General Counsel's Office of the San Jose Redevelopment Agency.

Activities and Awards

I have been cited as one of the best lawyers in the Silicon Valley by San Jose Magazine. San Jose Magazine annually polls Silicon Valley area judges and attorneys as to whom they would choose to represent them if they or someone in their family needed an attorney. I have been among those attorneys selected in the category of Family Law for nine years in a row.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I encourage clients to educate themselves on their legal issues, but ask that they strongly consider my advice in the end.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Yes.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Yes.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I became a lawyer to help people.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I was adopted at birth and have been raised by Caucasian parents which has given me a very open mind in terms of relating to people and allows me to help in an extremely non-judgmental way.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

It seemed to be the area where I could accomplish the most for people in their lives in a direct way.

What do you like best about your career?

My work has a direct, tangible impact.

Tell us about your law firm:

I have a very friendly law firm with employees who care about those who we are working for. We try extremely hard to provide as much practical assistance to people as possible on top of helping them negotiate through the legal system. We are always ready and willing to hear clients' input and suggestions and we work together as a team to come up with the best solutions possible for our clients.

What are your strengths and style?

My greatest strength is the ability to ascertain and use to our clients' advantage the "big picture." I was taught from an early age, that if you can understand the "big picture" the little pieces will fall into place by themselves. As a result we tend to constantly keep our minds not only on the legal aspects of situations, but also the practical. As many times, the practical may rule the day.

Personal Interests:

Spending time with my family -- my wife and three kids -- flying, boating and horseback riding.
