Example Cases

John Doe had been living paycheck to paycheck ever since his divorce 2 years ago. After he paid his child support and other bills, there was barely enough left over to pay the minimum amounts on his credit cards. His credit card debt totaled over $30,000. Then he lost his job. The only replacement job he could find paid much less than his previous one. There was no way he could pay his credit cards so they went into default. The credit card companies began calling him 10 times a day, even at work. He went to see me, Rich Reister, Bankruptcy Attorney, about his bleak situation. I analyzed his situation, told him he qualified for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy, and even set up a payment plan for the attorney fees. After gathering some more information and part of the attorney fees, I filed his Bankruptcy case. The harassing phone calls stopped. Four weeks after filing the case, John and I went to a hearing called a "Meeting of Creditors." I did most of the talking and held John's hand through the meeting. Sixty days after this meeting, I obtained a "Discharge Order" signed by the judge. This "Discharge Order" wiped out most of John's debt. I then gave John some tips on re-establishing his credit and even gave him the name of a mortgage broker so John could begin planning on buying his own home someday. I gave John a fresh start.
