Business Law
I prefer working with successful policy holders and brokers. To avoid conflict of interest issues, I do not represent insurance companies on coverage matters.

I have extensive experience in representing clients in securities, insurance coverage, real estate and commercial litigation matters. I recently tried a three-week binding arbitration on behalf a public technology company arising from a merger dispute and obtained a verdict awarding my client the entire amount in dispute, and I successfully conducted a one-week trial in a real property lease valuation case. I also defended an issuer in a securities class action, which reached a favorable conclusion shortly before the scheduled trial date, and obtained a dismissal on behalf of another issuer in a securities class action where the issuer had restated its earnings. I have been responsible for obtaining successful results on behalf of clients in mediation and arbitration and on dispositive pretrial motions and appeals in cases involving securities and insurance coverage issues.

Donahue Gallagher Woods LLP conducts a highly diversified civil practice, providing a full range of litigation, business counseling, transactional, and alternative dispute resolution services in the areas of business, corporate, real estate, intellectual property, employment, immigration, creditors' rights, and insurance, as well as services in the areas of trusts and estate planning. Our clients range from individuals, sole proprietorships, and small, family-owned businesses to multi-national Fortune 500 corporations, including some of the country's most prominent technology companies and retailers.
The firm was founded in 1918 and has offices in Oakland, Mill Valley, and Walnut Creek. Each of our attorneys brings several areas of expertise to the practice of law, allowing us to maintain a dynamic, flexible firm structure. The breadth of our experience and our cooperative culture enable us to offer our clients the sophistication and expertise of a larger firm, while retaining the responsiveness and efficiency of a smaller firm. Throughout nearly nine decades of providing legal services, our goal always has been to provide our clients with the highest quality of service in the most cost-effective manner. To achieve this end, we carefully staff all projects, matching client objectives with the professional skills and experience of our practitioners. Whenever possible, one attorney assumes full responsibility for handling a matter. For more complex transactions or litigation, we assemble a team suited to the special demands of the matter. Whether we are retained to provide representation for a single matter or to handle a client's ongoing legal needs, we strive to develop a close working relationship with our clients so that we may effectively represent them.
Our transactional, real property, and intellectual property attorneys have in-depth experience negotiating and drafting a wide range of legal documents relating to business, employment, real property, copyrights, trademarks, and estates and trusts. Our litigators have successfully represented clients in complex litigation and arbitrations involving contract disputes, copyright and trademark infringement, software piracy, unfair business practices, wrongful termination, and employment discrimination, antitrust and trade regulation, securities matters, insurance claims, product liability, creditors' rights, and contested wills. Our attorneys strive not only to develop a high level of expertise in their areas of specialization, but also to bring a business and practical perspective to each matter. We seek to be both counselors and problem-solvers, trying to help our clients avoid legal problems and vigorously representing their interest when problems arise.
I joined Donahue Gallagher Woods LLP in 2001. Prior to joining the firm, I was an associate in the Securities Litigation Group at Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison in San Francisco from 1999 to 2001 and in the Litigation Department at Troop Steuber Pasich Reddick & Tobey in Los Angeles from 1995 to 1999.
I currently sit on a City of Lafayette Commission and the Board of Governors for a nonprofit organization associated with the University of California at Berkeley. I also serve as a judge pro tempore in the Alameda County courts.
I welcome it. Well-informed clients can enhance the quality of representation and assist the client in making decisions and formulating strategy.

No.
I like a good fight in an intellectually challenging environment.
My trial experience and my work as judge pro tempore enhance my ability to evaluate cases and deploy strategies to put a matter in the most favorable posture for settlement and prepare for trial.
Insurance becomes important at critical times for businesses and individuals, and I enjoy being an advocate in this environment. Because I have litigated so many different types of claims, working as insurance coverage attorney also allows me to be exposed to a variety of legal disputes, which I find stimulating.
I enjoy assisting businesses and individuals during times of crisis in a fast-paced environment.
Please see www.donahue.com.
I have deposed dozens of insurance claims handlers and underwriters, litigated several types of insurance claims, and have written on insurance coverage law from a policy holder perspective.
Hard-working, flexible, creative.
I enjoy coaching and chauffeuring my children in various sports, attending Cal sporting events, serving on boards for my fraternity, and walking on trails in Oakland and Lafayette.
