In my first year of law school at the University of Houston, I was a quarterfinalist in the John Black Moot Court Competition. I was also invited to join the Houston Business & Tax Law Journal based on a legal paper I wrote for a campus-wide competition. I also clerked for one of the most successful Plaintiff's attorneys in the country where I assisted in major cases involving medical malpractice, trucking accidents, products liability, and lawsuits against the government under the Texas Tort Claims Act.

I formed my law firm in April, 2006 with the goal of providing affordable and effective legal services to clients from all walks of life.
I was previously employed by a small firm where I practiced civil litigation and bankruptcy. In April 2006 I decided to open my own firm, which I currently operate.
I remain active in the community by providing volunteer legal services to indigent individuals through the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program. I am also a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in the Rice Village.
I think any person who seeks the assistance of their lawyer will benefit from educating themselves on the legal issues involved in their case. The desire to do so is very natural and can be helpful in understanding the actions taken on a client's behalf.
Yes.
If a client feels more comfortable representing themselves in court with some guidance from me, I would absolutely support that.
Since first participating in high school debate, I've understood that I have a unique ability to communicate with others and to advocate any given position persuasively. I also understood that my abilities could be used to give a voice to persons who have no voice in our complex legal system. I feel very blessed to be a part of the legal profession and fight for others.
My bachelor's degree in communication, combined with my experiences in high school and college level debate, have given me an appreciation for the art of persuasion and the benefits it can provide for my clients.
My first family law case was a divorce I agreed to do for no charge through the Houston Volunteer Lawyer's Association. The experience of helping someone through a very difficult period in their life and being a part of starting a new chapter in their life was invaluable. I find family law very rewarding because I'm in the business of helping people turn to the next page in their lives.
I love the fact that I get to meet and assist people from all walks of life. I feel as though I learn something new from every client on a personal level.
Patel & Warren, PLLC is a three-attorney law firm focused on family law and general civil litigation. My business partner, Hiren Patel, heads our civil litigation section and is focused primarily on business litigation and real estate law. Having a real estate attorney in-house allows our firm to deal with complex real estate matters that may arise in many divorce cases or in negotiating pre or post-nuptial agreements.
My unique strength is that I bring a civil litigation background into my family law practice. By understanding the complexities of the rules involved in civil cases (which include divorce, child custody, and most other family law cases), I will have a thorough understanding of how to best achieve your goals in court.
When my clients first meet me, I am very easy going. For opposing counsel, I am willing to listen to their client's position and communicate it to my client to determine if there may be common ground upon which the parties may agree. If and when it comes time to fight over the issues upon which we cannot agree, I pursue my client's interests in a professional, focused, and zealous manner.
I am an avid backpacker and hiker. I try to take at least one weekend every two months or so to leave the city and get out into the backwoods for some peace and quiet. Doing so allows me to recharge my batteries and come back to the office on Monday ready to get back to work.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer fixed-price services. We are happy, however, to provide an estimate of the total costs involved based on our experiences with cases such as yours.
My standard hourly rate for family law cases is $190 per hour. Our associate attorney, Janice Berg, charges an hourly rate of $165 per hour. In the event your case has complex property issues, our in-house real estate attorney, Hiren Patel, charges $265 per hour. All hourly fees are billed in six-minute (one tenth of an hour) increments.
Our firm offers a discounted initial in-office consultation with an attorney for $50 for the first thirty minutes. After that time, our standard hourly rates apply.
Retainers requested of clients may vary from $1,000 to $4,000 depending on the complexity of the case and an estimate of the time necessary to complete your case. My firm will only charge you for time actually spent on your case, based on the hourly rate. At the end of your case, any unused portion of the retainer is promptly returned to you.
Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the applicable bar associations upon joining the directory.
Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any bar association.
