Firm Focus and History

The firm's focus is on wrongful death and personal injury cases. I have been practicing law since 1975.

Previous Employment Summary

I began my legal career at an eight lawyer law firm, practicing tax and securities law for one and a half years. I then decided to go out on my own and broaden my practice. I shared office space with several lawyers in Arlington and accepted various types of cases, including personal injury. In 1976, I moved my wife and baby to the Wimbledon area in Arlington and began a wonderful personal and professional life. I later had two more children and was very involved with my children's activities.

In 1986, I decided to only accept wrongful death and personal injury cases. The practice of my law firm is still limited to those areas. In 2004, the law firm relocated to the current site in the new and unique Heritage Rocky Building on Interstate 20. This is only the third location that I have practiced in law since 1975 and I hope to practice at this same location for another 15 years. In addition to my law practice, I am very involved with community and political activities.

Activities and Awards

Legal and political foes alike have termed me "tenacious, diligent, well prepared and hard working." In the 1980s, I was president of my homeowners association and was appointed to the Arlington Planning and Zoning Commission. In 1990, I was elected at large to the Arlington City Council and served until 1994, when my law practice demanded more of my time. At that time, I decided to go through the difficult and time consuming board certification process. In 1995, I received my certification in personal injury trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. I have been re-certified twice since then, which is every 5 years.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

It is helpful and important.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Yes.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Those who represent themselves are not our clients, but I will be happy to answer their questions.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I get satisfaction out of helping others.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I have 32 years of law practice.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I like helping injury victims.

What do you like best about your career?

I like best that my success is based on results, not effort.

Tell us about your law firm:

My firm has three attorneys and ten support staff. Everyone really enjoys his/her work and does a great job. We all work toward one goal--to make maximum recovery within a reasonable time for our clients.

What are your strengths and style?

My brother and I are both Board Certified in Personal Injury Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Only 3% of Texas lawyers have that designation. The other lawyers cannot claim to be experts or specialists in personal injury trial law. We are also members of the College of the Texas Bar, which means we have at least double the continuing legal education that is required. In addition, the firm and I are rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell, which is the highest rating in law and ethics.

My style is to be friendly and cooperative as long as that works. If not, I go to plan B.

Personal Interests:

I enjoy playing old rock and roll favorites with my band. My favorite love is playing with my grandchildren, followed closely by being with all of my family and practicing law.

Nolo's Licensing Check

Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the applicable bar associations upon joining the directory.

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any bar association.
