What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I believe that it is very important for a client to educate himself as to the charges against him, all of the evidence being used in his or her case, and any relevant strategies which may be available.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

(Clients normally do not prepare documents in criminal cases).

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

We do provide a free initial consultation and often discuss legal strategies with clients who ultimately represent themselves.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

Based on my experiences as a San Jose Police Officer, I felt that I could provide a unique service to criminal defense clients. My background and my education, undergraduate and graduate, were geared towards speech, debate, and literature.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

Former police officer and former Associate Professor of Law.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

My experience in the law enforcement arena continues to provide good insight into the practices of local police officers and a better understanding of the treatment a client may receive during an arrest.

What do you like best about your career?

The best thing about being a criminal defense lawyer is that no two cases are alike.

Tell us about your law firm:

The experienced and capable lawyers at the criminal defense law firm of Hinkle, Jachimowicz, Pointer & Emanuel have been defending people in the San Jose area for more than 30 years. Very few South Bay area criminal defense law firms have the breadth of experience we offer our clients. We've helped thousands of clients facing charges in San Jose for DWI. Our attorneys have extensive experience handling complicated state and federal cases.

What are your strengths and style?

My law enforcement background gives me unique knowledge of the criminal justice system from both sides, as well as the political knowledge to produce excellent results in the negotiation of cases which might or might not benefit from trial.

Firm, aggressive, compassionate.

Personal Interests:

Family, music (guitar and mandolin), tennis, and golf.

Nolo's Licensing Check

Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the applicable bar associations upon joining the directory.

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any bar association.
