I am a founding partner of Hinkle, Jachimowicz, Pointer & Emanuel, having practiced criminal law since 1976.
San Jose, California, Police Officer, 1969 - 1974
I have served as a Judge Pro Tem of the Superior and Municipal Courts in Santa Clara County and serve on the Board of Directors of the Teen Counseling Center of the West Valley (President 1997 and 1998), Pate House, Inc., Alcohol and Drug Recovery Home (President 1995 through 1996), Volunteers In Parole, serving juvenile offenders currently released on parole from the California Youth Authority, having served as president of that organization as well.
I believe that it is very important for a client to educate himself as to the charges against him, all of the evidence being used in his or her case, and any relevant strategies which may be available.
(Clients normally do not prepare documents in criminal cases).
We do provide a free initial consultation and often discuss legal strategies with clients who ultimately represent themselves.
Based on my experiences as a San Jose Police Officer, I felt that I could provide a unique service to criminal defense clients. My background and my education, undergraduate and graduate, were geared towards speech, debate, and literature.
Former police officer and former Associate Professor of Law.
My experience in the law enforcement arena continues to provide good insight into the practices of local police officers and a better understanding of the treatment a client may receive during an arrest.
The best thing about being a criminal defense lawyer is that no two cases are alike.
The experienced and capable lawyers at the criminal defense law firm of Hinkle, Jachimowicz, Pointer & Emanuel have been defending people in the San Jose area for more than 30 years. Very few South Bay area criminal defense law firms have the breadth of experience we offer our clients. We've helped thousands of clients facing charges in San Jose for DWI. Our attorneys have extensive experience handling complicated state and federal cases.
My law enforcement background gives me unique knowledge of the criminal justice system from both sides, as well as the political knowledge to produce excellent results in the negotiation of cases which might or might not benefit from trial.
Firm, aggressive, compassionate.
Family, music (guitar and mandolin), tennis, and golf.

Trial fees are normally not built into the flat fee for service, however, all fees, including trial fees are negotiable.
When a client desires hourly representation, our hourly rates range from $250 to $350 per hour.
