Immigration
I have clients from all over the world and enjoy that aspect of my job very much. If I had a "preference" it would be to work with people who care about the outcome of their case and are willing to provide the information I need to prepare the best case for them in an expedient time frame.

Founded in 2000, The Law Office of Christine Troy provides high quality legal services to all clients. My focus is on family and employment visas and green cards. All aspects of each case are handled directly by Christine Troy (unlike large firms that hand most cases off to paralegals). Many immigration cases face unforeseen legal obstacles, and the application process is often stressful on you, your family and your employer. In order to minimize this stress, all procedures, options, problems and recommendations are explained and discussed up front. As a result of this thorough hands-on approach, my office has had great success obtaining green cards and visas for applicants, even when other legal offices told them there was no solution.
Prior to opening my own office, I worked for a well-known immigration firm in downtown San Francisco. My previous employment history also includes employment as a domestic violence counselor and internships with Legal Aid of Marin and Earthjustice.
I attend numerous seminars on new law, including the AILA national conference when appropriate and continually read up on new developments on immigration law.
I think it is very important for people to understand the legal process and the current laws as they relate to their case. In my experience, this greatly reduces the amount of stress felt by my clients during the immigration process.
I can not review documents unless the client is hiring me to prepare the entire case. In my opinion, a cursory examination of immigration forms does not provide a complete picture of a person's history and can lead to faulty or negligent advice and harm the person's ability to obtain a visa or green card.
I am happy to provide an initial consultation, to discuss options, problems, procedures and recommendations as they relate to that person's specific case. I also thoroughly prepare my clients for DHS interviews, regardless of whether I will attend with them.
My job is challenging on a mental level, but I also have a lot of direct client contact and get to help people get what they want from the immigration system. All of these aspects of my job are very enjoyable for me.
I think any job or education can give you insights and experiences that will make you a better lawyer. For instance, my experiences in the restaurant industry taught me how to do five things at once and how to communicate effectively with a wide range of people. My education at Beloit and Hastings gave me an understanding of the law and developed my critical thinking skills. In addition, every year that I practice makes me a better lawyer.
In immigration law, I get to work directly with my clients to obtain a visa or green card or to reunite a family and that is very satisfying, rewarding work.
I best like my clients and creating effective legal strategies.
I am a solo practitioner and directly handle all aspects of each case, from legal analysis to preparing applications and communicating with my clients. This allows me to remain "on top of" each case and provide the best legal services possible.
I am creative and able to develop strong legal strategies for unusual or complex immigration problems. In addition, I am invested in my clients' well being.
I am personable and direct.
I enjoy ceramics, sailing, travel, family and friends, wine and a good book.
