My firm focuses on all aspects of the practice of criminal law from the first telephone call from a client to, where necessary, an appeal. I have learned something new every day of the past 29 years and apply all of my knowledge to provide the best representation possible to all of my clients.

The more a client knows about the law and the issues pertinent to their cases the better; just as long as they understand that they did not graduate from law school and are not attorneys. An educated client makes my job easier.
If a client gives me a document I will read it. In fact, I demand that my clients prepare documents for my review.
I offer minimal, if any coaching. Clients are in enough trouble merely being in court; self-representation usually results in a slam-dunk conviction.
I became a lawyer to help people.
I have been both a laborer and a professional. During summers while in college I worked in the engine room of United States merchant vessels sailing between the west coast and Asia. After one year of Law School I enlisted in the United States Army and attended (and graduated from) Officer Candidate School before seeing combat in Vietnam. When I separated from the Army I returned to and graduated from Law School. My first job in the practice of law was as a prosecutor, which provided insight into the minds of my adversaries and enables me to better understand their motivation.
My first legal job was as a prosecutor and I enjoyed being in Court every day. When I left the office I looked forward to practicing Civil Law but quickly realized that it was not for me, insofar as it entails too much time in the office and too little time in Court.
I most enjoy helping clients out of the jams they get themselves into.
As a sole practitioner I have no employees or associates.
I let no one outwork me and I take nothing for granted. I treat every case as if it is the first case of its type I have seen, and start with the basics. I do whatever it takes to be the most prepared attorney in the courtroom.
Up to trial I am personable and willing to work both with my client and the prosecution(where possible) to fashion the best resolution and disposition of the matter. But in trial I consider it my job to rip the flesh off the primary witness(es) against my client and work within legal and ethical boundaries to accomplish that task. I am relentless and merciless in cross-examining witnesses who lie, exaggerate or stretch the truth.
I enjoy UCLA basketball.

I have no fixed price services and fees. All cases are different and all clients are different. Everything I do is fine-tuned to the needs of the client and their ability to pay whatever fee we agree upon.
There are no fixed hourly rates. The rates vary depending on whether we are discussing interviews, office visits, court appearances or trials.
I am always willing to give a free initial consultation but I can tell when a potential client is sincere or just shopping.
Depending on the type of case, facts of the case and history of the client, I either ask for all monies in advance - or - if I am willing to accept payments, one half of the fee in advance and prompt payments of the remainder.
Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the applicable bar associations upon joining the directory.
Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any bar association.
