What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

Ask questions and make sure you understand what is happening. You are the one who must make informed decisions and obey court orders.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Absolutely. The client is the most important source of information.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I will not help a client lie, but I will educate them as to what the law is and what must be proven in court.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I wanted to help people and liked the challenge of working in the system.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I have handled over one thousand cases and more than forty jury trials.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

While I am not a certified specialist, the vast majority of my practice is criminal defense because I enjoy the challenge.

What do you like best about your career?

What I like best is helping people.

My partner, Ben Koller, has been practicing for longer than I have and does mostly juvenile law. My office assistants are Marli King and Jean Daniels. My paralegal Gurmit Saini assists me with the civil practice.

What are your strengths and style?

I have an excellent relationship with the courts. This allows me to do things many other attorneys cannot.

Straight-forward and honest. You may not like what I tell you, but it will be the truth. I will not tell you that I can get you a deal just to get your money. If I do not think you will benefit from hiring me, I do not want your case.
