Firm Focus and History

After working as a paralegal for 20 years, I obtained my law degree and opened this firm three years ago. As a debt relief agency, my primary focus is aiding the consumer in obtaining a fresh financial start as provided under the Bankruptcy Law.

Previous Employment Summary

I was a paralegal specializing in bankruptcy and family law for 20 years prior to obtaining my law degree, and now assist the consumer in obtaining a fresh start.

Activities and Awards

I constantly keep updated as to all changes in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I believe everyone should educate themselves as to any legal matter with which they may be involved. I have recommended Nolo Books in the past, which helps give the client a foundation as to the legal issue they currently face.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I do not review documents prepared by persons acting on their own behalf, because once you point out an error, you end up spending an excessive amount of time explaining why the client's position is wrong and that the client is walking into a pitfall.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Again, there may be an excessive amount of time involved in explaining why the client's position is not feasible.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

As a lawyer, you never know everything. There is usually a new issue in every new case, no matter how straightforward the case may be.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I have 20 years of experience being a paralegal and am very knowledgeable with bankruptcy matters.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I like the fact that I am helping someone who really needs help; generally, it is not the client's fault that they are in the position they are in. The client has often been pushed into a corner by unemployment, medical problems, or divorce.

What do you like best about your career?

There is something new every day.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am a sole practitioner, therefore each client gets my individualized attention.

What are your strengths and style?

I try and personally handle all aspects of the case, from intake to appearance at the bankruptcy hearing.

Informal with the client, a shirt and tie for court.

Personal Interests:

Bankruptcy law and litigation, development of law, legal history.

Nolo's Licensing Check

Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the applicable bar associations upon joining the directory.

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any bar association.
