Continuing Education

I have attended a number of legal seminars relating to criminal defense, rules of evidence and trial techniques in order to be current on the new developments in my profession. I am in full compliance with all of the State Bar standards and requirements for continuing education.

Example Cases

In a recent case, I represented a defendant charged with elder abuse. The allegations were that she only married the elderly man so she could deplete his savings and checking accounts. During this marriage with this elderly man, she was actually living with a different man at his home. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty on all counts.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

People should educate themselves to assist their lawyer in the defense of their cases. It is their case and their lives that are at stake. However, there must be an understanding that I will ultimately decide the best legal strategy to pursue based on my experience and knowledge of the law.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I want to review all documents applicable to their case. There are times when a client may not think that a particular fact or bit of information is important, but it may become very important to factual or legal defenses.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I will not give advice to anyone representing themselves.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I became an attorney to make a comfortable living helping people in a profession that will challenge me on a daily basis.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I had a number of jobs prior to becoming an attorney (busboy, produce clerk, substitute teacher, farmer) where I have worked with people from different racial and socio-economic backgrounds; this gives me an understanding of their current situation. Also, my varied employment background has taught me interpersonal communication skills with different types of people.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I enjoy the changing dynamics and challenges of criminal defense. Every case is different and requires a different approach.

What do you like best about your career?

I enjoy helping clients by reducing their fear and the stress associated with being arrested and having criminal charges pending. I also like to win jury trials.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am a sole practitioner who emphasizes personalized attention for each client. You will be speaking directly to me regarding all of your questions about your case.

What are your strengths and style?

My strength is my communication skills. This is crucial in communicating with the Court and the DA to get my clients the best possible resolution; furthermore, communication skills are obviously important in jury trials. Also, good communication skills have allowed me to effectively represent clients with English as their second language and clients who have limited reading skills.

I work hard on behalf of my clients and will be honest and direct when I advise them about their cases. I want to ensure that my clients are well-informed throughout their case and have confidence in my legal abilities to help them.

Personal Interests:

I enjoy spending time with my family and working on the family farm.
