What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I encourage clients to educate themselves on legal issues. I hope for a team approach between the client and me. Two heads are always better than one. Clients can sometimes see things that I simply cannot. They often have a fresh, common-sense approach.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Yes, I often ask clients to prepare documents, and then I review them after the client has completed them.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I would prefer not to because of malpractice concerns.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I decided to be a lawyer for the intellectual challenge, the love of a good courtroom argument, the enjoyment of working for people, and the practical problem solving.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

My taxation background and education has been very helpful in family law. I am also a former school teacher and I gained a lot of experience that has crossed over from dealing with children.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I have never been bored with Family Law. I have practiced in many other areas and here I like the fast pace and the ability to litigate and do transactional work. In Family Law, I am truly a counselor.

What do you like best about your career?

I most like the intellectual and personal challenge. I feel I have become a better person having done what I've done.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am a sole practitioner with a paralegal and administrative assistant. I share offices with four other attorneys and their staffs.

What are your strengths and style?

My unique strength is finding creative ways to settle cases.

I am zealous but not aggressive in my style. I care about my clients. I am quick, efficient and result-oriented. I have also been called tenacious when necessary

Personal Interests:

I enjoy bikram yoga, personal fitness, music, backpacking, camping, and reading (none of which I have enough time for).

Nolo's Licensing Check

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any bar association.
