How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?
We focus on Criminal Defense matters because both Steve Raiser and Tom Kenniff have focused their careers on this area of law. After serving in the District Attorney's Office together we decided to open up a law firm focusing on Criminal Law cases. For the past decade we have mastered the art of criminal trial advocacy.

Steve Raiser
Steve Raiser is a founding partner of Raiser & Kenniff, P.C. Steve's practice area is criminal defense and litigation.
Steve is a native of Long Island who has also resided in Manhattan and the Bronx. Before attending college, Steven was a counselor for teenagers who had trouble with the law and were residing in group homes. While attending law school at night Steven ran a full service social work and community service program in mid-town Manhattan where he supervised individuals previously convicted of crimes, through Riker's Island, "Early Release Program."
Since being admitted to the New York Bar, Steve represented the city of New York, serving as a Special Assistant Corporation Counsel. There he handled all aspects of litigation in âChild Neglect casesâ representing the interests of the children and the city.
He then served as an Assistant District Attorney where he successfully prosecuted hundreds of criminal cases, from violations of the Vehicle and Traffic Law to homicides. During his time as a prosecutor, Steve was involved in high profile cases such as those involving, Rapper DMX and NY Ranger's Defenseman Sandis Ozolinsh.
While serving as a prosecutor he joined the United States Army. As a commissioned officer in the Army National Guard's, Judge Advocate General's Corps, Steve volunteered for active duty in Iraq. There he served the troops in the office of the Staff Judge Advocate, defending soldiers from actions instituted by the federal government, making probable cause determinations for the command and assisting in the training of Iraqi soldiers in legal proceedings.
In recognition for his service in Iraq he earned the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal for meritorious service in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Army Commendation Medal for exceptional meritorious service during combat operations. He, along with his unit, received the New York State Bar Association's Award for Excellence in Public Service and was presented with our state's flag, by Senate Majority Leader, Joseph Bruno.
Steve is a graduate of the Albany State University, School of Criminal Justice and earned his Juris Doctorate at St. John's University, School of Law where he received the "Excellence for the Future Award" for excellent achievement in the area of Criminal Trial Advocacy and was a recipient of the certificate of Appreciation from the Nassau County Bar Association. He is also a member of the New York, Suffolk and Criminal Law Sections, as well as the National College for DUI Defense, is the Vice President of The Criminal Court's Bar Association of Nassau County and he is the President of the Nassau County Criminal Courts Foundation, a not for profit organization dedicated to assisting disadvantaged youth and adults. Steve Raiser is admitted to practice law in the state courts, federal court, Eastern District and on November 14, 2010, was sworn into the U.S. Supreme Court by Chief Justice John Roberts in Washington D.C.
Steve has appeared as a legal analyst for Fox, CNN and Court TV (TRU TV). His interviews on CNN and Fox have been posted to their websites and have been showcased under "must see videos." Anthony Delluniversita
Anthony P. DellUniversita has been with Raiser & Kenniff, P.C. since February 2009. Anthony is a Criminal Defense and Civil Litigation attorney, ranging from Personal Injury to Commercial claims.
Anthony P. DellUniversita received his Juris Doctorate from Hofstra University. He was on the Deanâs List, participated on the Moot Court Panel and graduated Cum Laude. He received his Bachelorâs Degree from Ithica College and is a member of the Nassau County Bar Association and the Suffolk County Bar Associations.

James Ingoglia
Jim Ingoglia is a Counsel to Raiser & Kenniff, P.C. His practice areas include commercial litigation, employment litigation, trust & estate litigation, and criminal defense. He is a Long Island native who is a graduate of Chaminade High School, the College of the Holy Cross, and Hofstra University School of Law (With Distinction). In addition to helping lead the firm's Civil Litigation team at Raiser & Kenniff, Jim assists the criminal defense team, particularly with federal criminal defense work. Jim clerked for United States Magistrate Judge David L. Martin in Providence, RI, who was a well-known trial and appellate defense lawyer in New England.
At White & Case LLC, Jim worked extensively with the firm's White Collar Defense group on several international financial fraud investigations. He also devoted significant time to indigent clients through the Criminal Justice Act (CJA) panel. As part of his CJA work in federal court, Jim helped represent a successful cooperating witness in a large-scale crystal meth ring investigation.
Jim was also second seat at trial, and co-defense counsel through verdict and sentencing, in the case of a Colombian national extradited to the United States for money laundering and conspiracy charges in the SDNY. That trial work involved the "Operation Wirecutter" investigation by the federal government, which resulted in the first ever extraditions from Colombia based solely on charges of laundering narcotics proceeds. The lead prosecutor on the case later became the Special United States Treasury Department Inspector General overseeing the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP).
As a former associate at Garfunkel Wild & Travis, P.C. and a Counsel at Smith Valliere PLLC, Jim assisted with the firms' representation of medical practices and other medical professionals both in civil litigations and investigations by the Office of Professional Medical Conduct (OPMC), other regulatory agencies, and insurance task force teams.
In addition to litigating, Jim also teaches Contracts, Civil Litigation, and Insurance Law at Hofstra University to paralegal students and insurance professionals. He also sits on the Board of a Brooklyn non-profit ballet school for Russian dance. Jim lives in a Long Island beach community with his wife, a clinical psychologist who works with veterans, and his two young sons. He enjoys bodysurfing, running, and more recently, judo lessons with his older son.

Giovanni Escobedo
Giovanni L. Escobedo is a 2009 graduate from the Touro Law Center. He graduated from Saint John's University in 2004 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Secondary Education. In 2009, Mr. Escobedo represented the Touro Law Center in the Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Competition, where he assisted his mock trial team in reaching the semi-finals. Additionally, during the summer of 2008 he studied International Constitutional Law and Human Rights in the European Union at Potsdam University in Germany.
Mr. Escobedo is admitted to practice law in the States of New York and New Jersey. He is a member of the New York State, Nassau County, Queens County and American Bar Associations. Mr. Escobedo's areas of practice include, but are not limited to, criminal defense, traffic violations, real estate transactions, wills, estate proceedings, child support and child custody proceedings, uncontested divorce, Family Court orders of protection, personal injury and civil litigation for plaintiff or defendant in various civil matters.
