How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

Joe Whitcomb founded Whitcomb Law, PC, and its disability arm, Rocky Mountain Disability Law Group (RMDLG) in the heart of downtown Denver, CO in April 2012, in order to serve the firm's clients in their interactions with Federal, State, and Local government. The firm started by helping Social Security disability applicants and their families get the benefits they needed by representing them at the hearing, Appeals Council, and federal district courts. Whitcomb Law, PC then began serving veterans in their appeals with the Board of Veteran's Appeals and US Court of Appeals for Veteran's Claims. Joe Whitcomb is one of a very small number of Colorado attorneys performing significant federal appellate work for both Social Security applicants and Veterans. With three offices covering Denver and Colorado Springs, Colorado as well as Atlanta, Georgia, we are working to broaden our reach in order to help as many people as possible. What experience or education distinguishes your lawyers from others

Joe Whitcomb learned federal administrative law by working as a staff attorney for the Social Security Administration from 2009 though 2011. He opened his own firm in 2012 and has built a disability practice with an emphasis federal district court appeals. Joe Whitcomb's military background gives him an unusual perspective as a business owner to be able to advise other veteran owned companies. He has navigated the morass of SDVOSB certification for his own company and has used that experience to help other veterans get their company certified through CVE.

Joseph Whitcomb

Owner and Founder



Joe Whitcomb, is a former United States Army Ranger. He has dedicated his life and legal career to helping those in need. Backed by years of experience working with the Social Security Administration, Joe Whitcomb fights for disability claimants and Veterans with service-related disabilities. His primary focus is helping them obtain their rightful benefits.

In January 2009, Joe Whitcomb began his legal career working for the Social Security Administration. As an attorney-adviser for nearly three years, he assisted the Administrative Law Judges in preparing for Social Security disability hearings. Joe Whitcomb continually exceeded the standards for writing a voluminous number of decisions on behalf of the judges. He eventually began mentoring new attorney-advisers for the Social Security Administration.

Upon leaving the Social Security Administration in 2011, Joe Whitcomb began representing disability claimants before the SSA. Using the vast extent of his legal knowledge, he greatly benefited his disability clients. He has personally represented hundreds of Social Security applicants at the initial application level, hearing office, Appeals Council, and federal district court.

During law school Joe Whitcomb was a legal intern at the Rocky Mountain Survivors' Center and Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network. He was also a legal advocate at the Denver Safe House and has volunteered much of his time to mentoring at-risk teenage youths in various educational and recreational activities.

Joe Whitcomb's Past Life



Prior to becoming an attorney, Joe Whitcomb was an Infantryman for the United States Army Rangers, where he was a member of the "Spearhead" element in Operation Just Cause and intelligence support during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Upon leaving the U.S. Army, Joe Whitcomb continued to serve his country as an Assistant Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge with the United States Air Force for three years. Joe Whitcomb then attended the University of Denver College of Law and graduated in 2007.

Joe Whitcomb also has a Masters Degree in International Relations from Troy University and a Bachelor of Science in Social Sciences from the University of Maryland University College. He is a member the National Organization of Social Security Representatives (NOSSCR), National Organization of Veteran's Advocates, Colorado Trial Lawyers' Association (CTLA), and the Colorado Bar Association. He is admitted to practice in front of the Colorado Supreme Court, United States District Court for the District of Colorado, 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, US Court of Appeals for Veterans' Claims (CAVC), Social Security Administration, and the Veterans Administration Board of Veterans Appeals (BVA).
