Vanessa Carpenter Lourie obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Howard University in 1975. She graduated magna cum laude. She was also chosen as a member of the Academic Honors Society, Phi Beta Kappa. Ms. Lourie obtained an academic scholarship to attend Georgetown University Law School where she obtained her Juris Doctorate in 1978.
In 1978 Ms. Lourie was admitted to the District of Columbia Bar. As a result of the expansion of her practice, in 1996 she applied for and was granted admission to the Maryland Bar. She is currently authorized to practice before the following courts:
-Supreme Court of the United States
-District of Columbia Superior Court and Court of Appeals
-United States District Court for the District of Columbia
-United States District Court for the District of Maryland
-District of Columbia Circuit Court of Appeals
-State of Maryland Circuit Court and Court of Appeals
-Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals
After law school Ms. Lourie worked as general counsel for a local government consulting firm involved in technology transfer to developing countries. However, in 1982 she decided to open her own private law practice, and has been engaged in the private practice of law continuously since that time.
Her business has included both transactional and civil litigation representing both individuals and businesses involved in a myriad of commercial enterprises such as
-Real estate ventures
-Child care centers
-Other wholesale and retail operations
She provides representation in general civil litigation matters including commercial disputes, commercial collection, contract disputes, creditors' bankruptcy protection, real estate, and landlord and tenant matters. She also provides representation in the preparation of wills and trusts and in the administration of estates.

As part of her commitment to giving back to her community, upon referral by community, legal, or religious organizations, Ms. Lourie provides pro bono services to individuals who cannot afford legal counsel. She also provides reduced-fee services for low-income individuals and nonprofit organizations.
