He attended the University of Missouri for his undergraduate and graduate degrees, earning a B.S. in Agricultural Economics in 1987 and a J.D. in 1989. Upon graduation, Mr. Tweedy returned to Southeast Missouri and began his legal career at Oliver, Oliver, Waltz & Cook, P.C., a firm that handled primarily insurance defense matters. After approximately four years with The Oliver Firm, Jim returned to his Stoddardd-County roots and opened the Tweedy Law Office in Bloomfield, Missouri.

Jim maintains a general civil practice, which includes juvenile, probate, estate planning, collection, business and domestic matters and a general criminal defense practice, which includes minor traffic matters in addition
to serious felony criminal charges.

Locally, Jim is an extremely active member of the community. He has served as the local District Representative to the Young Lawyers Council of The Missouri State Bar, President of the Stoddard County Bar Association, as well as President of the University of Missouri Agricultural Alumni Association. Jim also spent time as Chairman of the Board of Directors for Southeast Missouri Legal Services, Inc., a company providing free legal services to qualifying individuals, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Center for Family Resources, Inc. Currently, Jim is the Fund-Raising Chairman of the Stoddard County Children's Home, Inc.

While maintaining a tremendous reputation in Southeast Missouri, Jim has also been recognized at the state level. In May of 2008, Missouri Governor Matt Blunt appointed him to serve a four-year term as Vice Chairman for the Missouri Ethics Commission.
