Estate Planning

Is your firm willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?

Yes.

What are your policies about dividing work within the firm to make the process most cost-effective for the client?

Whenever possible we offer Clients goal based flat fee rates. Most of our Clients do receive services from more than one firm member based upon both cost efficiency and who is the best provider of the service needed. Although tasks may be divided we take extra efforts to insure that our Clients never feel shuffled about and always maintain strong lines of communication with their attorney.

How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?

In planning cases we regularly meet with our Client's family members and other professionals who work with our Clients to avoid misunderstandings and conflict as well as to insure the smooth implementation of our Client's plans. We include mediation and arbitration provisions in a substantial portion of our Client's documents.

Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?

Yes.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

We are a Client centered practice. Unlike many firms we take the time to ask and listen to what our Clients really need and want. We do not try and fit our Clients into standard, one size fits all, documents and solutions but instead work to create plans and documents that both fit each Client's current needs and are flexible and adaptable so that the structures and solutions we create do not become tomorrow's problems.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

Educated Clients are the best, We do not believe in black box solutions for our Clients. We make a point of taking the time to explain to our Clients what we are doing and why we are doing it. Only when a Client understands the whats and whys can they take full advantage of the Strategies and Techniques which we can put in place for them. When Clients take the time to educate themselves before meeting with an attorney, they save time and empower themselves to make better choices.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Of course we are willing to review documents prepared by our Clients. Sometimes self prepared documents will do the job, more often they act as a good starting point which lets us know what a Client believes they want to accomplish. Unfortunately, sometimes Client prepared documents take much more time to review and fix than it would take to draft new documents. In drafting documents for themselves most non-attorneys don't know what questions to ask themselves and therefore don't know what answers should be incorporated into their documents to meet their needs.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

In some areas of practice, yes -- in others, absolutely not. If we feel that a Client can cause themselves significant harm by representing themselves, with or without help, then we dare not help.

The Weissler Law Group
Joel Weissler

The Weissler Law Group was established as a separate firm by Attorney Joel Weissler in 1991. Having witnessed great drama, pain, conflict and loss caused by poor estate and asset protection planning in his own family, Attorney Weissler became committed to help families minimize conflict, preserve their assets and avoid those pitfalls which are aligned to take away individual's
hard earned assets. The firm briefly merged with a general litigation practice for a two year period and then separated and refocused on Estate Planning, Elder Law, and Asset Protection Planning twelve years ago.
