PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Since becoming a member of the California Bar, Rex Tran has focused his practice on representing consumer debtors in bankruptcy. Before starting this law firm, Mr. Tran was a Managing Attorney for Jacoby and Meyers Bankruptcy Law, LLP (formerly Macey Bankruptcy Law, PC) from 2010 through 2012. To date, Mr. Tran has handled over 650 bankruptcy cases. As a Managing Attorney, Mr. Tran not only handled matters personally, but also trained staff and attorneys in all aspects of bankruptcy.

Additionally, Mr. Tran also has experience in business civil litigation and personal injury claims from his time as a law clerk for The Law Offices of L. Michael Wilson (formerly Apollo Law Group) from 2006 through 2008.

MILITARY EXPERIENCE

Mr. Tran presently serves as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army Reserves with the 78th Legal Operations Detachment in Los Alamitos, CA. In 2008, he was deployed to Camp Taji, Iraq where he provided legal support for 1,500 Soldiers of the 419th Combat Support and Sustainment Battalion. During his 12 year military career, he also worked on courts-martial cases and military boards, and provided legal assistance such as helping Soldiers obtain citizenship, wills, and powers of attorney.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

Michael H. Chen received his B.A. from the University of California, Irvine in 2002. He earned his J.D. from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 2009. While in law school, Mr. Chen was a Notes Editor and Staff Associate of the Thomas Jefferson Law Review. In his law review article, he argued that under the Military Commissions Act of 2006, the definition of the term “unlawful enemy combatant” should recognize a distinction between a juvenile and an adult. He also earned the top grade in his Legal Writing I class, and was placed on the Honor Roll and the National Dean’s List.

While in law school, Mr. Chen interned for the Office of the Attorney General, where he wrote three respondent briefs that were submitted to the California Court of Appeals, and orally argued three appeals before the same. He also participated in a judicial clerkship with the San Diego Superior Court, East County, for the Honorable Laura W. Halgren. Mr. Chen further broadened his legal experience while interning at the Office of the Family Law Facilitator, where he engaged directly with pro per clients. Finally, he interned at Bankers’ Hill Law Firm, A.P.C., where he interacted with clients and worked on a wide range of issues involving worker’s compensation.

In 2004, Mr. Chen was mobilized for Operation Iraqi Freedom under the command of the XVIII Airborne Corps out of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. As a Sergeant, he was deployed to Balad, Iraq and Baghdad, Iraq in 2005. In 2006, he attended the Noncommissioned Officer Academy at Ft. Lewis, Washington, where he was the Distinguished Leadership Graduate of his class.

He is currently a Staff Sergeant in the 78th Legal Operations Detachment.
