The Inniss Firm, PLLC, is a boutique traffic, DWI and criminal defense firm founded by a former 20 year New York State Trooper.

The firm's philosophy and goal is to provide legal counsel and guidance by taking time to delve into the case particulars, demystifying the charges and process to clients while cogently comprising a case strategy and available defenses based on the circumstances. Sometimes good people make mistakes. By according each client and case the individual attention and focus -- the type of hands-on treatment and approach a lawyer would provide a family member -- you know you are in capable, caring hands and not dealing with your average lawyer or law firm.

Each client represents an individual who is the sum total of positive life experiences. He or she is more than a "set of charge(s)" and a fee. We help prosecutors and the court understand that you are a person who has lived a full life, dignified life and existence, well beyond the current charges faced. We present the whole person and story to the prosecution and court, not a mere snapshot of behavior the allegations, police and formal charge(s) suggest. This is NOT your run-of-the-mill, billable hour, clearinghouse law firm!

The Inniss Firm, PLLC, and its principle attorney, Randall F. Inniss, offers a value proposition and, some might argue, a mindset advantage as counsel who formerly served as a police officer for over 2 decades. After identifying areas where he could help, he embarked upon a journey which led to law school and assisting those charged who were unfamiliar with the criminal justice system.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

As someone who served with the State Police for over 2 decades, I came across countless DWI and criminal cases where defense counsel did a marginal job in representing clients. Yes, that would include cases in which I was very familiar. While I stood by and observed this at first, over the years it inspired and challenged me to take action; to become involved. Thus, I applied for and attended law school while still a state trooper and later set forth to assist good people by starting my own boutique, criminal defense firm.

While focusing on assisting good, hard-working people who either made a mistake and found themselves on the wrong side of the law, or were unfamiliar with the criminal justice system, I have set out to make good on my goal to assist those in need of solid legal representation and sound criminal defense.

Helping people, one client at a time, I feel a duty to assist the accused and, where appropriate, help at-risk or the underprivileged or unknowing understand what steps they can undertake in certain situations, such as traffic stops or police encounters, to better assist themselves to steer clear of getting arrested or charged.

What experience or education distinguishes your lawyers from others

What clearly distinguishes my firm lawyers is my twenty-one (21) years in law enforcement as a State Trooper, and then ascension to Investigator and Senior Investigator handling complex criminal investigations. I have worked in many areas of the State, from New York City to Buffalo and many cities in between.

I have conducted investigations involving many areas of the state Penal Law and other areas to include Federal statutes (e.g., Continuing Criminal Enterprise cases.) I have worked in many areas both within and outside of the state. From making DWI arrests to handling complex narcotics investigations, my experience in several aspects of law enforcement has honed my abilities on the criminal defense front.

In addition, while a state trooper and attending law school, I interned in both the Erie County District Attorney's office (covers Buffalo, NY, the 2nd largest city in the state behind NYC) and the state Attorney's General's office. Thus, I am familiar with how the "sausage is made," meaning how the various prosecutorial bodies approach cases.

Lastly, there is passion. My passion for criminal law is underscored by my pursuit and graduation with an LL.M. in Criminal Law, which speaks both toward my focus and total immersion in this important discipline which impacts so many lives.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

Personalized, individual attention. Period. Clients are not a number here. Or merely a fee. Randall F. Inniss, Esq.
