Firm Overview

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LITIGATE YOUR DIVORCE.

TAYLOR-MADE SOLUTIONS DIVORCE SERVICES WILL HELP YOU RESOLVE EVERY ISSUE IN YOUR MICHIGAN DIVORCE: CHILD CUSTODY, CHILD SUPPORT, PARENTING TIME, PROPERTY DIVISION AND SPOUSAL SUPPORT. BY USING MEDIATION INSTEAD OF HIRING LAWYERS FOR LITIGATION, YOU AVOID THE DELAYS, EXCESSIVE LEGAL BILLS, AND TRAUMA THAT RESULT FROM THE TRADITIONAL ADVERSARIAL COURT PROCESS. MOST IMPORTANTLY, YOU PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN FROM THE TURMOIL OF SEEING THEIR PARENTS FIGHT IT OUT IN COURT.

You do not have to go to war with your spouse because you are getting divorced. And make no mistake; litigation is war. I know. I have been an attorney for over 20 years. Your lawyer's job is to "win" your divorce case. Your spouse's lawyer has the same job. It's war.... Right up until just before the trial date, THEN, it will settle. More than 95% of divorces do. In fact, if the attorneys cannot negotiate a settlement, the judge will order you to go to a mediator. To get to that point, what will it have cost you in money, in stress, in the increased anger and resentment you feel for one another after all the battles? What will it cost your family to see you go to war with each other?

There is a better way.

Instead of mediating after months of battles, mediate right away. Lisa Taylor will help you communicate with each other so YOU can decide what's best for your children and how to best divide your property, instead of having the decisions pushed on you by attorneys or forced on you by a judge.

Example cases

Dear Lisa,I just want to thank you for all of your help. As you know, we both had lawyers battling for us and we both got sick of what it was doing to us and to our kids. You made us so happy that we chose mediation instead. We accomplished in just a few meetings what we had been deadlocked about for months with our lawyers. And now we are able to talk to each other about the kids and solve problems that come up instead of assuming the worst about each other and just fighting all the time. Lori L. (prefers not to advertise her last name)

Having made the difficult decision to divorce after a long marriage, my husband and I were committed to resolving our differences in a respectful, civil manner. We did not want the process to dissolve into a bitter, angry, drawn-out fight with one another. We researched options, and discovered that divorce mediation was the path that we wanted to take. As our mediator, Lisa Taylor made the complicated process of divorcing easy to understand. She made sure that each of us was heard, that our concerns were addressed, and that both of us had helped to create a balanced settlement with one another. She has made this difficult process less painful by giving us a level of control in determining what we wanted the outcome to look like. Wendy Betway

I was very impressed with Lisa's approach to the mediation process. Having never been through a divorce before, it was comforting to lean on her experience. She was methodical and logical in the way she organized the individual topics that needed to be negotiated and thoughtful in how she offered input. She was very clear about her neutral role in the process and never provided advice that was inappropriate to either party. She was an effective facilitator and kept both parties focused while remaining sensitive to the strong emotions associated with some of the topics. At the end of the process I feel like we came out with not only a fair and equitable separation agreement but a trusted partner to call on if the future requires it! Stu Johnson

Is your firm willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?

Yes, although even if clients do not need me to help them resolve every issue, they often benefit from my drafting their entire agreement, to ensure all decisions have been carefully delineated and drafted in a document that will be accepted by the court.

What are your policies about dividing work within the firm to make the process most cost-effective for the client?

The mediator handles all aspects of the case. Divorce mediation makes the process MUCH more cost-effective than any litigation structure.

How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?

I provide only mediation services.

Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?

I volunteer at the Oakland Mediation Center.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

I mediate divorces instead of litigating them, saving clients time and money, reducing conflict, and giving clients control over the decisions that will affect them and their families for years to come.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

An educated client is an effective and happy client. People need information before they can make decisions, otherwise, they are just shooting from the hip and are likely to regret their decisions later on down the road.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Absolutely. The more the clients have prepared prior to our sessions, the more effective each session will be.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Many of my clients do not have attorneys representing them. I draft their court documents and explain the court process, so they will know exactly how to proceed and what to expect.

I became an attorney in 1988, earning my law degree from the University of Michigan. In 1999, I experienced my own divorce and the emotional turmoil it created for my children and for me. That year, I took the training to become a civil mediator but mediated only a few cases, because I became more heavily involved in litigation.

Although successful, I did not feel fulfilled, because litigating is really "lose-lose" for everyone. I decided to make a change, and trained to become a divorce mediator, leaving a successful litigation firm to pursue mediation full time.

Mediation has fulfilled all expectations for me and my clients. Instead of finding ways to weaken the other side, which was my job as a litigator, now I empower both sides so they can resolve disputes and move forward with their lives.

Regarding my education, I received my bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan as well as my law degree. I trained as a mediator through the Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE) and the Oakland Mediation Center, and completed the ICLE's family law Certificate program. I act as a training coach for the Oakland Mediation Center's mediator training program and provide volunteer mediation services there and with the Wayne County Friend of the Court.

The mediator handles all aspects of the case. Divorce mediation makes the process MUCH more cost-effective than any litigation structure.
