Stolberg & Townsend, P.A.

Proudly celebrating over 40 years of service.

Firm Overview

In 1967, attorneys Joseph Barrs and John Williamson founded a firm dedicated to representing injured and disabled individuals. Vicki Stolberg joined the firm immediately out of law school in 1982 and became a partner after several years. Byron Townsend, a former medical malpractice and insurance defense attorney, went out on his own in 1987 to use his knowledge to represent plaintiffs. He merged his practice with Barrs, Williamson & Stolberg in 1990, creating Barrs, Williamson, Stolberg & Townsend, P.A. In 2007, the firm name was shortened to Stolberg & Townsend, P.A. With over 45 years of client service, Stolberg & Townsend, P.A. is proud to carry on the legacy of its founders.

As a full-service law firm, Stolberg & Townsend, P.A. continues to provide clients with high quality representation in all areas of personal injury, auto accidents, wrongful death, social security disability, workers' compensation, longshore and harbor workers' compensation, and state disability retirement. Mr. Townsend and Ms. Stolberg have over 30 years' experience in the Tampa legal community. Why call a giant referral service, when you can receive personal attention from an attorney familiar with local practice. If you need assistance in an area of law we do not handle, we will use our contacts to find you the attorney most qualified to represent you, and remain as co-counsel on the case to assist as needed, giving you an extra point of contact.

Both partners at Stolberg & Townsend, P.A. are Board Certified in Workers' Compensation Law -- a distinction held by just over 230 attorneys statewide. That means that the partners at Stolberg & Townsend are considered specialists by the Florida Bar in this area of law.

Personal Injury
Over the past 40 years, one thing that hasn't changed is the firm's focus on client service.
Stolberg & Townsend, P.A. continues to focus its practice on protecting injured and disabled individuals, with heavy emphasis on the areas of Personal Injury, Auto Accidents, Workers' Compensation, Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation, Social Security Disability, and State Disability Retirement. Our attorneys' backgrounds and experience include medical malpractice and insurance defense work.

Automobile Accidents, Personal Injury, and Wrongful Death
Much of our practice is devoted to representing people injured due to the negligence of others, such as automobile, motorcycle, and pedestrian accidents; dog bites, slip and falls, etc. In the event of injury and death due to the negligence of another, we represent individuals and their surviving dependents. If you have a medical malpractice or nursing home claim, we can assist you. We explore all avenues of liability and coverage to obtain maximum compensation for all of our clients. Please contact us for a free consultation regarding any negligence claim.

Workers' Compensation
Under Florida law, employees injured on the job are entitled to specific benefits such as medical care and lost wages. We represent employees and their surviving dependents to ensure they receive the maximum compensation and the proper medical treatment they are entitled to under the law. We can help our clients with a variety of problems involving Workers' Compensation such as denied and disputed claims, payment delays, inadequate medical treatment and other difficulties. Our thorough investigation of each case includes consideration of not only Workers' Compensation coverage, but also Social Security Disability, liability of parties other than the employer, the Americans with Disabilities Act and other potential benefits. This has led to specialized experience in these areas, as well as Personal Injury litigation.

Social Security Disability
Federal law provides monthly Social Security Disability benefits for individuals who suffer from a long-term, major disability that prevents employment. If you are injured or disabled and unable to work, we will prepare and try the case before an administrative law judge, and to the Social Security Appeals Court, if necessary.

Longshore & Harbor Workers' Compensation
Under Federal law, employees who are injured while at sea or in related work areas such as a wharf, dry dock, or terminal are entitled to compensation. While the benefits are similar to general Workers' Compensation, the legal details and coverage differ from those provided by state law. In Tampa, where thousands of workers are employed at the nation's eighth busiest port, this is an important legal specialty.

General Services
In addition to the firm's areas of specialty, we can assist clients with the writing of wills, simple real estate and commercial contracts, powers of attorney, and general litigation. For complex matters involving other areas of law, we will be happy to recommend and co-counsel with qualified attorneys who specialize in the appropriate field. We hope you will consider us your attorneys for any legal need. Please feel free to call us with any questions you may have.
