How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

I enjoy real property matters as well as matters relating to general business.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

It is the attorney's obligation to explain the law to clients so that clients may make an educated decision on matters that affect their case, including strategy and costs. The more knowledge a client has regarding the law, the better prepared they are to make appropriate decisions.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

In many situations I encourage a client to prepare documents (such as a detailed statement of facts), as the client's participation in the case often helps reduce his or her legal fees.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Depending upon the amount in dispute and whether there is an applicable attorney fee provision, it often makes sense for a client to represent himself pro-per with coaching from an experienced attorney.

Steve Sayler

Prior to forming my own law practice, I was a principle in the law firm of Goode, Hemme, Peterson & Sayler from 1998 to 2007. Prior to joining Goode, Hemme, Peterson & Sayler, I was with the law firm of Musick, Peeler and Garrett from 1986 to 1987 and with Hillyer & Irwin from 1988 to 1998.

Prior to becoming an attorney, I had extensive experience in the business world as the Chief Executive Officer of business entities, including supervising employees, preparation of budgets and review of financial documents; purchasing of equipment, management of construction matters and community relations.

In representing my clients, I am persistent, efficient and always cost conscious in obtaining the best possible results for them. I have extensive trial experience, but I recognize that it is in my client's best interest to resolve disputes by settlement instead of trial. I have been very successful in resolving lawsuits at an early stage through skillful negotiation, mediation and arbitration.

Personal interests:

I enjoy vacationing with my family, playing tennis, golf, skiing, beach activities and reading. I also have been an active member and past president of a local community service organization since 1995, the Rancho Bernardo Rotary Sunrise Club. The club is associated with Rotary International, a worldwide service organization with more than one million members.
