If you or a loved one has recently been in an auto accident, then you know it comes with a cost. But according to South Carolina law, someone else may be legally obligated to pay these costs, especially if the accident was not your fault.

Steinberg Law Firm can determine whether you are legally owed compensation for your auto accident and help move your case forward. Our experienced car accident attorneys deal with insurance adjustors and accident paperwork on a regular basis, and we can keep unscrupulous insurance companies or dishonest motorists from taking advantage of you. Automobile accidents are a common cause of death and injury in the United States, and also a surprisingly complex legal area. While we all know the most basic laws of the road, they can apply to a car accident in surprising and non-intuitive ways, making a good auto accident attorney all the more necessary. Fortunately, Steinberg Law Firm's lawyers have a great deal of knowledge from all the cases we've represented over the years.
If you've been injured in a car accident, we don't advise that you try to handle the insurance companies yourself. They have an entire team of lawyers, adjustors, and investigators all working against you, to try and pay you as little as possible on your claim. Serious personal injury caused by another person's negligence can stem from many situations, such as motor vehicle accidents, slip and fall accidents and medical malpractice. When someone else's carelessness is the reason you were injured, you should not have to deal with all of the consequences of your injury without compensation.

With an injury claim, you can pursue compensation for various aspects of how the injury has affected your life, such as: medical bills, loss of wages, pain and suffering.

Suffering a serious injury can be one of the most challenging experiences that a person can go through in their life, and you may not be fully prepared to face such challenges on your own. The costs of medical treatment, lost income from time spent away from work, and other issues can all quickly become overwhelming for injury victims and those who love them. Our injury lawyers will help you find proper medical care and assist you with your other immediate needs as we build a case to pursue compensation on your behalf.

To find out how our experienced attorneys can fight for you and your family following a serious injury, please call the Steinberg Law Firm, LLP, at 843-720-2800 for a free case review. What experience or education distinguishes your lawyers from others?

If you've been injured, the insurance companies won't have your best interests at heart. They hire teams of attorneys, adjustors, and investigators all working to pay you as little as possible. They'll likely throw out lots of legal jargon and try to get you to sign paperwork or waive your right to compensation. With Steinberg Law Firm, you have your own team of lawyers to fight against the big insurance companies on your behalf, to get you everything you deserve. Get the firm behind you, and let us do the heavy lifting for you, so you can focus on getting better.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

Irving Steinberg founded Steinberg Law Firm in 1927. As one of the first Jewish attorneys in Charleston, Steinberg experienced discrimination and this inspired him to assist another disenfranchised group during that time African Americans.

The firm began handling criminal and civil cases, and in the early 1920's, Steinberg became interested in workers compensation law. There were, however, no workers compensation laws on the books at the time. Steinberg and other South Carolina attorneys then gathered statutes from other states and lobbied to add a similar law in South Carolina in 1936.

Over the next two decades, the firm grew to include partners Hugo Spitz, Irvin Levkoff and Charles Goldberg and the team continued its commitment to advancing workers compensation laws. These attorneys founded several industry organizations that are still active today, including the S.C Association for Justice (formally the S.C. Trial Lawyers Association) and Injured Workers' Advocates.

Steinberg continued fighting for the rights of injured people until his death in 1980. And his legacy lives on in the firm that still bears his name.

Steven Goldberg

Steven E. Goldberg joined the Steinberg Law Firm in 1993, following his father into a career of law. Steven explains, "Growing up, I was impressed to see my father working hard and the clients being truly thankful for that hard work." Steven earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Florida and his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. While practicing law for over 25 years, Steven has represented clients with on the job injuries and automobile wrecks. He has had successful trial appearances as well as settlements totaling over several million dollars. Over the past several years, Steven has increased his practice to represent families of those who have had loved ones injured or killed in nursing homes because of neglect. Steven maintains his office in Summerville, South Carolina but practices law at both the Broad Street and Goose Creek locations. He is very active in the legal community, having served as President of the South Carolina Injured Workers' Advocates and Chairperson of the South Carolina Bar Worker's Compensation Section. He has also served on the board of Governors for the Association for Justice (Trial Lawyers). Steven has argued Workers' Compensation cases before the South Carolina Court of Appeals and the South Carolina Supreme Court. He also addresses colleagues and members of the business community at various seminars regarding Workers Compensation issues.

David Pearlman

Born and having lived in Charleston all his life, David Pearlman has spent his entire life observing the dignity and respect of the law. David's father, the Honorable Gus H. Pearlman, was Probate Judge for Charleston County for 35 years. "He taught me that everybody deserves respect, dignity, and equal justice no matter their background." David Pearlman has spent his entire career trying to ensure that "justice for all" means just that. While in college at University of Georgia and George Washington University, David marched for civil and workers' rights. After obtaining his law degree from the University Of South Carolina Law School, he joined the Steinberg Law Firm in 1976. He then became a partner in 1980. David has been a member of the South Carolina Bar for more than 40 years. He has won landmark cases before the South Carolina Court of Appeals and the South Carolina Supreme Court. He has been credited with successful victories protecting working people against some of the country's largest corporations.

Kevin Holmes

Kevin Holmes has a sign hanging over his sink that reads, "I wasn't born in the South but got here as quick as I could." He moved to Columbia in 1975 right after he graduated from Rutgers University School of Law. When he passed the South Carolina bar exam, he took a job working with then Senator Isadore E. Lourie, the Speaker Pro Tem of the South Carolina Senate and champion of the rights of working men and women of our State. It was during his time with Senator Lourie that he won the landmark case of Marquard v. Columbia Pacific Mills which was the first time a cotton mill worker was awarded death benefits for the lung disease called byssinosis or brown lung. The case broke the stranglehold the political Medical Panel had on denying benefits to mill workers and made it easier for all workers to receive workers' compensation benefits for occupational diseases. Kevin moved to Charleston and joined the Steinberg Law Firm, in 1979 where he has practiced ever since. He became a partner in the firm in 1985. He says, "I choose to come work for the Steinberg Law Firm because its founder, Irving Steinberg, was also recognized as being a champion for the rights of working men and women. Irving Steinberg helped write South Carolina's first workers' compensation statute and get it passed into law by the Legislature in 1936."

Thomas White

Tom White grew up in the textile-producing Upstate of South Carolina and spent his summers working third shift in the cotton mills. That experience shaped his desire to help working people. A distinguished graduate of the University of Virginia, he then graduated in the top 10% of his class at the South Carolina School of Law in 1977 and was admitted to the SC Bar in 1978. Tom began his law career as a public defender and joined the Steinberg Law Firm in 1980. He is a member of the Charleston County Bar Association, the South Carolina Bar Association and the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association. For the past fifteen years, Tom has been listed in Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers For Workers' Compensation. Tom exclusively handles work injury cases with many cases paid to the injured workers in excess of a million dollars.

Malcolm Crosland

Malcolm Crosland grew up in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, a few blocks from Charleston's historic beaches, and spent his youth fishing, hunting and surfing on its then-empty beaches. Born to a family of attorneys, he graduated from the University of South Carolina for both his under graduate degrees as well as the University's School of Law. In 1986 and immediately joined the Steinberg Law Firm. Recognized year after year by Best Lawyers in America and SuperLawyers, Malcolm holds an A/V (the highest level) rating with Martindale-Hubbell for his professional and ethical standards. He's a past president of Injured Workers Advocates, the only statewide organization for attorneys dedicated to the protection of the rights of injured workers. He has served on the Board of Directors for Workers Injury Law and Advocacy Group (WILG), a national organization whose mission is to protect the rights of working people in the United States.

Michael Jordan

Michael J. Jordan joined the Steinberg Law Firm in 2006. Michael grew up in Columbia then attended college at the University of South Carolina where he earned his B.A. Degree. He received his law degree from the Florida Coastal School of Law. Immediately after graduating from law school, Michael joined The Steinberg Law Firm. He especially recognized the importance of the firm's reputation for delivering proven results for the injured people of South Carolina. For three years in a row, he has been listed in Best Lawyers in America for 2016, 2017 and 2018. He was selected as one of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers in 2014. His trial work has been featured in SC Lawyers Weekly newspaper.

Benjamin Akery

Growing up, Benjamin W. Akery's family moved around a good bit, following the path of his father's industrial safety career. "Moving to six new states growing up taught me to be comfortable in all sorts of situations," says Ben. That comfort has extended to the legal world. In 2008 Ben joined the venerable Steinberg Law Firm, which was founded in the 1920s on the principle that individuals deserved representation against forces bigger than themselves. Ben became a partner at the firm in 2016. At Steinberg, he is concentrating on personal injury, workers' compensation, and social security disability law. For three years in a row, he has been listed in Best Lawyers in America for 2016, 2017 and 2018. Catherine Meehan

Catherine "Catie" Meehan graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Charleston School of Law in May of 2013, having already distinguished herself in the medical field. She earned numerous CALI Awards (signifying the highest grade earned in a class) for her academic performance. She also received the Founder's Award for Professionalism in Advocacy. Catie served as the Student Works Editor of the Charleston Law Review and is the author of two published articles: one exploring property rights of human tissue published in the Charleston Law Review and the other a study of the NFL concussion litigation and a proposal to create a victim relief fund to compensate former NFL players with football-related neurological injuries published on nflconcussionlitigation.com. Armed with a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Notre Dame, Catie headed to the Medical University of South Carolina to earn a B.S. in Nursing. She worked as a pediatric nurse for three years at MUSC before pursuing a law degree. Upon completing two internship/clerkship appointments, Catie knew she wanted her legal career to focus on helping people, not corporations. Catie's dual passions for law and medicine led her to the Steinberg Law Firm, where attorneys work with individuals who have been injured at work or in their daily lives.
