How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

I started out my career in personal injury and workers' compensation cases and have loved those areas of law and the satisfaction I get when I get the insurance company, corporation or public entity to pay my client(s) good and fair compensation.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

My experience has been that the more a client knows and understands about the process, the easier it is for me when/if the case goes into litigation to work with the client and prepare for trial.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I encourage my clients to keep a journal or diary of their thoughts, losses and feelings after they have suffered an injury or injuries from a traumatic event. This not only helps to document losses but also helps me to better understand the claims they are making. I also ask my clients to make notes and keep track of any questions or concerns about the case to bring with them to their appointments with my office.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I am willing to provide some advice and counsel should an individual or individuals decide they wish to handle the matter on their own at no charge. I also provide free initial consultation to those merely seeking to know what their rights and options are.

Scott A. VanWagenen

I worked for a personal injury and workers' compensation firm in the downtown Fresno area for 17 years prior to joining the partnership.

We have represented thousands of individuals over the last 38 years collectively and recovered millions of dollars in compensation for injuries, damages and/or harm caused by the wrongful acts of another. We have taken dozens of cases to trial and have obtained generous verdicts in conservative jurisdictions and are not afraid to take on large corporations, public entities or insurance companies. We treat each and every case as if it were our own and we do everything in our power and take all measures to ensure just and fair results to those who have been injured or harmed by the acts of another.

We personally communicate with our clients and ensure that they are able to contact us whenever they have a question or wish to discuss their case. We are fluent in Spanish and ensure that our clients are well informed and are confident we are aggressively working on their cases. Also we have worked hard to earn the respect and a good reputation in the legal community.

Personal interests:

I enjoy travel and have been fortunate enough to visit Paris, France, London, England, Costa Rica, Central America, Buenos Aires Argentina, and many different cities in Mexico. I also enjoy skiing and hiking.
