Employment and the Law, knowing your rights is our job.
Many of us spend as much time at work as we do with our friends and families. So it is no surprise that sometimes miscommunication, misunderstandings or maybe just plain bad intentions lead to workplace disputes. At Rubric, our employment law practice is designed to help our clients avoid those disputes when possible, and to reach a fair resolution of the disputes that cannot be avoided.

Our employment law lawyers in Minneapolis counsel clients on issues involving employment and the law in Minnesota, including:

- Discrimination in the workplace based on age, sex or gender, national origin, religion, disability, or sexual orientation
- Whistleblower retaliation
- Worker's compensation retaliation
- Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) disputes
- Unpaid wages
- Wrongful termination

The workplace is governed by myriad federal and state laws. Our goal is to help employers navigate those laws, rules and regulations so they stay in compliance, and to assist employees in understanding the scope and the limits of their rights under those same laws. Our employment law lawyers in Minneapolis offer contract review and drafting services to employers as well.

Avoiding costly litigation is a top priority for employers. Our Minnesota employment law practice covers several areas:

- Breach of restrictive covenant or non-compete agreement
- Breach of confidentiality provision

Each case begins with assessment of the dispute, and, if litigation cannot be avoided, an evaluation of what ultimately needs to be proven at trial to prevail. Along the way, we will answer your questions about the process and our litigation strategy, offer frank assessments of the strengths and weaknesses of the case, and suggest ways to obtain the most favorable result as quickly and economically as possible.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

Our Formula: Listen. Understand. Communicate.

Rubric Legal is founded on principles of integrity, empathy, and professionalism, and the belief that smaller firms like ours are best able to provide our clients with personalized service focused on the legal challenges that brings them to our door.

What experience or education distinguishes your lawyers from others?

Our Twin Cities firm is committed to giving back to the community through direct philanthropic involvement and contributions to a variety of non-profit organizations, community ventures, and local charities.

Chad has been a volunteer attorney with the Children's Law Center of Minnesota for more than a decade where he represented children who found themselves caught up in the child protection system in Hennepin and Ramsey Counties. In October of 2014, Chad was the recipient of their 2014 Distinguished Service Award for his outstanding commitment to pro bono legal representation and advocacy for Minnesota's foster care youth. He also serves as a volunteer attorney with Volunteer Lawyers Network in Hennepin County. As an amateur actor, and he means a very amateur actor, Chad regularly performs with the The Duck Soup Players, a Twin Cities company that puts on plays in senior centers and assisted living facilities for audiences who may not be able to get out to the theater.

Michael is a Minneapolis small business lawyer and an active member of the Metro Independent Business Alliance, where he is the chair of the education committee. He has been a guest lecturer for the Business and Environmental Law seminar at the University of Minnesota Law School, and served as a moot court judge for the school's Maynard Pirsig Moot Court. Michael was selected by Super Lawyers Magazine as one of its Rising Stars for the years 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Chad Snyder

For me, it's all about the story.

From childhood, I've always found myself drawn into stories. And not just fiction (though I do enjoy a good movie or comic book), but the stories of the people I know and meet every day. It's probably no surprise, then, that I began my professional career as a newspaper reporter and editor, uncovering and reporting the stories of my community. Nor is it surprising that I moved on to practice law, because my job, at its core, is to understand my clients' stories, and to help other people judges, juries, opposing parties and their lawyers understand those stories as well. Fortunately, I find the skills I developed as a reporter uncovering the truth, telling stories in a way that is compelling and easy to understand serve me well as a lawyer.

I love the practice of law. I enjoy getting to know my clients, understanding what brought them to my door, and finding a solution to their legal problems. And I deeply appreciate the opportunity to give voice to your story.

Outside the office, my wife and I often see and sometimes appear in shows at the many excellent theaters the Twin Cities have to offer. I also watch what some might describe as a ridiculous amount of television, practice jujitsu, try my hand at woodworking when it's warm enough to go out to the garage, and do what I can to keep the weeds from completely taking over the flower beds in my yard.

Working with you, not just for you.

I appeared for my first hearing less than a week after I became licensed, and quickly realized that I love the courtroom. But most of my efforts are put into writing, where I have discovered that my philosophy background is a valuable asset. "Creative legal solutions" our motto means that we focus on the client's desires and how to effectively and efficiently achieve those goals. I pride myself on taking the time to learn what my clients really want to accomplish and explore all avenues to achieve those results.

Most people only call an attorney when they are on the verge of a lawsuit, or are already embroiled in one. In these situations, my options are limited. Those situations are not completely unavoidable, of course, and we at Rubric relish a good battle. Whenever possible, I emphasize the value of avoiding the problem in the first place and staying out of court.

Within the legal field, my passions include working with small businesses on all their challenges and representing employees in disputes with their employers. I also practice in the family law arena, with an emphasis in child support modifications.

When I am not working, you will probably find me with my wife, Delaine, and child, Charlie. I spend all the time I can outdoors running, golfing, watching a Twins game, kayaking, camping, or fly fishing. My wife and I love working in our garden and spoiling our two dogs, Olive and Molly.
