Firm Overview

This is a trial firm that represents good people with bad problems. Rain often works with other attorneys. If a matter warrants the expense of more than one attorney, other attorneys are selected based upon the court the case is in and fit with the client. Even when that happens, Rain always remains the main attorney on the case.

Example cases

Rain's litigation experience ranges from international arbitration in Hong Kong to jury trials in the United States.

Fees

Free Initial Consultation?

I do not charge for initial consultations. A free consultation can range from a few minutes to a few hours. I usually handle some of the most important issues in my clients' lives. When I take a matter, it is a commitment to seek justice. Neither a client nor I should make the decision to work together if we are not both sure that it is the right match. I do not want the wrong decision made because important details were left out in the rush to fit in the allotted free initial consultation period.

Is your firm willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?

Yes.

What are your policies about dividing work within the firm to make the process most cost-effective for the client?

Rain Minns is the lead attorney on all cases at this firm. We believe in slim staffing and using technology to eliminate menial work. There is often little point in a client paying for five different people to read the same document. Associate attorneys, when warranted on a case, are always experienced. Clients never pay for them to be trained. Paralegals are used for tasks such as preparing documents for production. An experienced paralegal can often do such tasks quicker and for a substantially lower hourly rate than an attorney.

How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?

Occasionally. Often it is not needed. For instance, in the last few months, one case settled very quickly because there was nothing to fight over (i.e. our client got everything he had asked for in the law suit), and we had criminal charges dismissed against two of our clients (i.e. the government decided not to go after them). We do not drag cases out to generate fees. We normally offer an early settlement with terms that would please our client. If that doesn't work, we see the other side in trial.

Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?

Yes.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

Rain Minns. This law firm was started so that Rain could personally champion the causes of good people with bad problems. The clients of this firm are here because they trust Rain to handle some of the most important issues in their lives. Further, even if a matter calls for a whole team, Rain always works directly with all clients. She is often described as a Texas State Judo Champion with an Ivy League education, which has led to great results for her clients over the past decade.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

The client is the ultimate decision-maker in a case, and the attorney is like a military general. The attorney's job is to keep the client well-informed, give honest and realistic advice, and then take action to pursue justice for the client. No client question is ever "too silly" or "basic."

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Rarely.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Yes, on occasion. These are usually matters that we feel are 1) too small to warrant hiring an attorney to handle completely, but 2) it would be an injustice for the person to simply give up. For instance, last month a physically frail grandmother with very little money needed help going to small claims court against a landscaper that stole less than $600 from her. She had been cheated many times in the past, and just wanted to stand up for herself. We declined her case and refused to take her money, but Rain met with her for over an hour to teach her how to represent herself.
