Personal Injury & Litigation are a focus; however, no attorney in Illinois can ethically tell you they "specialize" in personal injury or auto accidents.

You will find I listen to my clients - and am truly and always honored to represent each one.
Passion - Integrity - Trust

"Before you can inspire with emotion, you must be swamped with it yourself. Before you can move their tears, your own must flow. To convince them, you must yourself believe."

- Sir Winston Churchill

Philip J. Berenz, CPA, JD is a Chicago trial attorney representing individuals and businesses all over the United States for injuries and disputes and defending them when necessary.

His passion for his beliefs of aggressive and zealous representation and true empathy for his clients' situations, circumstances, life-altering events and suffering shines through at trial time before a jury, in everyday conversations with the opposing attorneys and insurance companies and in every aspect of every single case.

He listens. He does the "right" thing when nobody is looking.

His trust is unequivocally paramount and he follows strict rules of ethics and professionalism with opposing counsel, the Courts and every person involved in every aspect of every matter. Words are bonds.

As a certified public accountant (CPA) for over 20 years (besides being a lawyer since the year 2000), Phil can easily "spot" financial issues such as fraud (or in defense matters, "disprove" that the alleged financial issues may not be what some other, less-experienced or less-"financially-experienced" lawyer "thinks" it is.)

Financial issues abound in personal injury matters such as for lost wages, economic devastation (future damages due to "permanency") and, of course, in nearly every single type of business (commercial) litigation matter.

If you have a lawyer, ask him / her / them if they have even considered the impact of such issues upon your pending case, then call me for a second opinion.

Just to "get started" with non-CPA lawyers or lawyers who do not understand finance and accounting may set you back years and, worse, cost you significantly. They may not even understand what questions to ask much less "spot" the issues.

Don't waste your time or money with lawyers who do not understand finance and accounting when it comes to fraud.

Phil was a financial analyst for 5 whole years before he decided to become a lawyer, was a corporate lawyer for one of the largest law firms in the United States, has tried numerous cases and now brings that wealth of experience into the courtroom and trial settings.

A Chicago Injury Law Firm You Can Trust!

Education:

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) 1994

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

Personal Injury & Business Litigation:

Helping people when they most need me in times of injuries-great or small-and helping people in their business problems (and people are "behind" every business-great or small) is what I have a passion for and truly enjoy. It makes me happy to know I have the power to potentially make people's lives and situations somewhat better and, sometimes, much better for having worked hard on their matters with zealous passion, integrity and trust.

What experience or education distinguishes your lawyers from others

Practicing for over a decade and intense work and education and a background prior to law school sets me apart. I truly strive to work diligently and with honor when representing any client.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

My true passion, integrity and trust. I can empathize with my client and truly understand them and their situations. I do my best to "right" the "wrongs" that have befallen them and am truly honored to so do.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I try my best to educate my clients--I even write a blog at least weekly on various topics. I often e-mail my clients articles I, personally, have written to answer their questions in depth. It's easy for me to understand issues with my training, background and experience but I truly understand that my clients only deal with such issues perhaps one time (hopefully) in their lives so education is critical for them.

I also--very unusually--offer my personal cell phone to my clients for critical questions and "off" hours to ease their concerns. Each one of my clients has my cell phone.

Recently, I even provided citations to state laws and cases to a client to fully comprehend drunk driving and traffic ticket issues in relation to a car accident to fully explain rules of evidence. The client truly appreciated how far and "above and beyond" I went to explain the law in so much detail. Again, I was honored to do so just as I am with every aspect of representing any client.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Absolutely! My clients often want to show me what they have prepared and most of the time, even if the documents do not meet "legal standards," the facts in the documents are critical assistance to their matters.

I welcome any and all information from my clients as sometimes the most minor detail can "make or break" a case!

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Lawyers cannot really "coach" people as it is considered "advice" and our ethical and professional responsibilities would command we simply represent people rather than "coach" them to go completely "on their own." Often, we represent people in injury actions on a "contingency basis" which means clients do not pay unless we win so clients do themselves a potential disfavor in trying to represent themselves when an experienced attorney could represent them on such basis.

How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?

As often as reasonably possible for various reasons and only under certain facts, circumstances and situations:

a. More efficient;

b. Resolves cases more quickly;

c. In some cases, it is required (arbitration in Cook County, Illinois for cases in certain divisions are required to go through arbitration);

d. Some Judges can order cases be sent to "court-annexed" mediation;

e. Some types of cases are required to proceed to arbitration such as uninsured and underinsured motorist claims; and

f. If the parties are in agreement to proceed in this manner, it may obtain not only results quickly and efficiently and at less cost but also can bring true "peace" to situations for all.

What are your firm's strengths and style?

Truly the passion and integrity and trust aspects of everything we do. It is not just a "motto" but what Philip and his colleagues live by daily. We must--or our integrity would be questioned if even the slightest issues are not handled in such manner.

Besides truly following our motto, Philip really listens to his clients concerns and worries. Being injured or suffering damages in relation to any incident is life-altering. Philip understands that first hand from various experiences with family and friends and due to handling numerous cases for over a decade. Philip understands that sometimes health insurance issues are an issue, job loss and lost wages can create a "domino-effect" on people's lives and create other problems financially and with relationships, a simple broken-down car from an accident can wreak havoc on your daily life and Philip often helps people immediately obtain rental cars to "keep them moving."

Philip's "style" is to fight aggressively for his clients and to try to keep his clients educated on various topics as well. He is always available via his personal cell phone in emergencies too!

And again the list goes onfar too many to list!

Philip has settled numerous (millions) in other personal injury and commercial litigation matters both pre (important as NO lawsuits EVER filed!) and post filing of lawsuits and cannot "list" many here due to confidentiality agreements. He actually reads the medical records and analyzes the bills in personal injury matters and, in business litigation, his CPA and finance skills allow him to quickly read, analyze and comprehend the "numbers" issues present in every business dispute in order to get right to the heart of the matters.
