Firm Overview

Established in 1995, Petersen Criminal Defense has handled over 6000 cases. Due to ever increasing complexity and conflicting legislation, I have limited my practice solely to criminal defense such as drunk driving, federal crimes, sexual assault, drug crimes and assault.

I believe in the every person's right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. In this age of electronic information and overzealous news reporting, it seems that that this right has been chipped away. I try and stop damage before it begins. For example, I once represented an adult book store owner in Omaha. The City's plan was to arrest him on a weekly basis and make outrageous claims that were later published in the media. I got an injunction against the City of Omaha and Omaha law enforcement from any further citations and arrests until we could get our day in Court. We won several jury trials and the City gave up. Had I not been able to stop the harassment, the case may have ended differently.

I believe that experience counts. I have handled almost every type of case imaginable ranging from actions on behalf of the United States Government against dirty contractors ripping off the taxpayers to murder charges. I believe that there is a right side of every case and that the truth is found through rigorous exercise of both State and Federal rights.

Over the years, I've learned to be afraid of no one. If you want a law firm that is willing to fight on your behalf, call us for a free, no-obligation consultation. If I don't think I'll be able to help your situation, I won't take your money. However, if you have been wrongly accused, aggressive representation in criminal defense matters are a phone call away.

Thomas Petersen

I grew up in Spokane, Washington and discovered at an early age that I wanted to pursue a legal career.

At age 16, I began working at a general practice law firm answering phones and filing legal documents. Eventually, I was admitted under Rule 16 of the Washington Supreme Court to represent clients on a limited basis. By age 19, I was handling traffic tickets in the lower courts under the supervision of an excellent criminal defense attorney.

I clerked at Decker Law Office for 6 years where I learned the art of operating a law office. This is a skill they do not teach in law school and I am grateful for their kind guidance.

I moved to Omaha in 1991 to attend Creighton Law School and graduated from there, Cum Laude, in 1994.

Petersen Law Office was born in 1995 and although I have handled countless types of cases, my passion was always for defending the underdog. I therefore limited my practice to criminal defense in 2000.
