The Law Office of Peter Loyd Weber, LLC

Firm Overview

One of the main reasons I attended Thomas M. Cooley Law School was their focus on training students to start their own small practice firms immediately after graduating law school. I knew around age three that I wanted to be an attorney, and it was my goal to start my own firm even before I began law school. My firm has been established since October 2010, and we have already had success in helping resolve several disputes for our business clients.

The focus of our firm is to address the needs of our clients and to educate them with regards to the legal/business issues they are faced with. We are there to advocate for our clients should a dispute arise and to help our clients take the necessary precautions to prevent a dispute in the first place. Whether it be through drafting effective shareholder agreements and employment contracts, or advising clients on zoning ordinance compliance, business industry laws, and entity formation, to name a few.

Example cases

I am currently representing a business in a newly emerging and constantly changing industry. I have helped them navigate their operating agreement and dissolved a managing member's status and ownership interest with little financial impact to the company.

I have also reviewed several commercial leases for a business client, easing their worries in the event that the landlord sells the property. Furthermore, I am currently seeking the return of a commercial lease deposit due to a breach of the lease agreement.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

As you will see, I have a very broad practice because it seems that my clients are often involved with legal issues from various areas of law. In order to be their advocate, I have established my firm to help them with almost any issue they may be faced with.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I greatly appreciate the knowledgeable client that understands that their attorney is their advocate and the legal expert. While I find it very important for clients to educate themselves on legal issues, legislation can often be very confusing and legal issues themselves can be difficult to identify. It is always in a business's best interests to seek legal counsel from a qualified attorney before entering into any business agreement to help avoid significant costs and hassle in the long run.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I already have reviewed several documents prepared by clients and am more than willing to continue this practice.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Generally, we do not coach business clients to represent themselves.

Peter Loyd Weber

Prior to graduating law school, I law clerked for Dean A. Robb, Esq., a respected attorney and civil rights activist, at the Dean Robb Law Firm in Suttons Bay, Michigan. I co-founded a consignment and antique store with my parents and turned an initial investment of $5k into an ongoing business with between $40k and $50k in inventory. My BA in Business Accounting from Michigan State University exposed me to several CEO Professors, who shared their experience and knowledge with me. My business clients benefit from my combined expertise in Business Fundamentals and Law.

Being raised by an entrepreneur, I have grown up with a very strong entrepreneurial spirit that I have demonstrated throughout my entire life. I have seen our family businesses be challenged in lawsuits, go through hard economic times, and flourish through good business practices and morals. This experience helps me relate to my business clients and understand other pressures that they may be facing in addition to their legal concerns.

I respond and resolve the issues that are presented to my clients as quickly and cost effectively as possible. I have been known to drop everything while on vacation to address urgent client needs. I take a very upfront approach to the representation of my clients in informing them of the various options available. While I remain professional throughout the entire process, several of my clients have said that I am more of a friend than an attorney to them.

Personal interests:

I am an animal-lover and outdoor enthusiast. I love hiking and skiing with my wife, enjoy new business ventures and supporting non-profit work.
