Law Office of Peter Irvine

Putting People into Homes, Easily and Economically, A Helping Hand in a Time of Need, Creative Solutions for Creative People

Firm Overview

We offer big city representation from a small town, community-based perspective. Our goal is to be a personal resource for people whatever their legal need.

Peter's motivation to become a lawyer was a desire for answersthe legal system seemed arcane and unapproachable. It needed a new interface; one where regular people can get the information and help they need at a reasonable cost and minimal stuffiness.

Having spent 30+ years in the entertainment business, Peter offers a firsthand understanding of, and pragmatic solutions to, the situations of our creative clients. Playing in, and managing, a band while touring the world, Peter learned to be organized and flexible.

We give you individual attention. Buying a new home or starting a new business is not just a paper transactionit's a life event that deserves careful attention. We practice gender-neutral law, open to a diverse body of clients.

In the spirit of increasing accessibility to the legal system for underserved people, we devote a portion of our practice to assisting tenants facing eviction and defending low-income people accused of crimes.

From our office in the arts mecca of Northampton, we assist an international clientele. This small town in Western Massachusetts has a long history as a prosperous center of creative activity in all the arts.

You will find us upstairs from Click Workspace, a coworking environment for entrepreneurs, new media workers, writers, editors, sustainability experts, graphic designers and other creative professionals.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

I enjoy helping people and using my expertise to find creative solutions to problems.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

We believe in empowering clients. We want people to make educated decisions, so we guide people to appropriate resources and provide analysis and opinions based on our own knowledge and research so that people have a full understanding of the complexities of the legal issues at hand.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

We are happy to review documents prepared by clients and provide assistance to help them meet their legal needs. Proper preparation can reduce your legal costs. We strive for an appropriate balance, spending enough time for a proper solution, without letting the costs outstrip the benefits.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

This depends on the case and the client. There are some scenarios where clients would be able to represent themselves well but, there are other scenarios where a client would most benefit from professional representation.

Peter Irvine

Before becoming an attorney, I was a professional musician, traveling the world for much of the 1990s with the band Cordelia's Dad. I have also worked in print publishing, theater and film.

My extensive experience in the arts helps me connect with clients and meet them in their personal circumstances. When you've played music in front of a crowd of 10,000 people, delivering a closing argument to a jury of 6 is that much easier. Having lived in numerous countries has given me an appreciation for cultural and economic diversity that strengthens my connection with my clients.

We aim for collaboration and negotiation over confrontation. We are responsive, thorough, and affordable.

Personal interests:

Parenting, community social singing, softball, and snorkeling in the Virgin Islands.
