Paul Sullivan Law Office

Firm Overview

I operate a solo practice in Bigfork, Montana and focus on serving the people of my community with whatever legal problems they have. I specialize in Bankruptcy, Criminal Defense and Appellate work.

Example cases

I recently revised and executed a will for a former high school teacher and his wife. Although a fairly routine matter, it is a perfect example of why I came home to practice law. I was able to help people in my community quickly and affordably. But more than that, I was able to play a part in the lives of people I care about.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

An older attorney once told me that the best bankruptcy attorneys are those who truly believe in the process. I practice bankruptcy because I honestly believe that it is a necessary and effective way of helping people out of bad situations. The opportunity to help them make a fresh start is an added bonus.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

The easiest way for me to help a new client is to fully understand their situation. I've found that the clients who have taken the time to learn about the legal issues involved are those who can help me understand what I need to know quickly and easily. In these cases, I play a minor role as an advisor, or I may take on a full representation. But in either case, the relationship is much more rewarding for both of us when the clients are informed and educated about their situation.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I am always willing to review documents prepared by clients. I charge my normal hourly rate for the time spent reviewing the document and the time spent discussing it with the client.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I am willing to answer questions submitted in writing and discuss those answers at my hourly rate.

Paul Sullivan

The day after being admitted to practice law in the State of Montana, I opened a solo practice in my hometown of Bigfork, Montana. Every day, I strive to remember that the reason I started my practice was to be a member of the community, not just another lawyer in his office.

I have an insatiable curiosity. I read constantly and always want to learn more. This gives me a broad background of knowledge to draw from when serving my clients. I am sometimes presented with questions I don't know the answer to, but that never happens with the same question twice.

I have an acute ability to remain focused on the ultimate objectives in a case. I do my best to remind my clients that while a choice may feel good in the moment, it does more harm than good to our long term goals. By never forgetting what my client's ultimate objective is, I find that I am able to get better results more quickly.
