Firm Overview

The Law Office of Patricia C. Van Haren solely practices Family Law and was established in 2011. The practice has grown exponentially with Ms. Van Haren's ability to utilize all of her skill sets from being a Paralegal for decades, gained knowledge as a Student in law school and finally to becoming a practicing Attorney in multiple counties. We have been able to develop a unique practice in family law that caters to individual needs of each client which then translates into long lasting relationships through the course of one's life.

The focus of her practice is to assist families in their life transitions and growth through the course of life. Our office prides itself on being able to establish personal connections with our clients. When working at law firms, Ms. Van Haren realized that very often the attorney knew little about the client or the family that they were working with. Ms. Van Haren wanted to practice differently. She understands that the key to being a trusted counselor and adviser and the key to achieving the clients objectives is to know the client on a personal level. Ms. Van Haren focuses solely on family law matters through mediation, collaborative divorce and other out of court resolutions.

- Family law ranging from prenuptial, mediation, paternity actions, divorces (mediation, collaborative law and uncontested divorces), military divorces, child custody & visitation, child and spousal support and property division.

Ms. Van Haren is also a member of Vesta, IACP, CP CAL and CDSOC and various bar associations and collaborative practice groups throughout Southern California.

Our main office is in Irvine and we have a satellite office in Torrance so that we can service all of Orange County and Los Angeles County.

Divorce

Family law ranging from prenuptial, mediation, paternity actions, divorces (contested and uncontested), military divorces, child custody & visitation, child and spousal support, property division, family law litigation, guardianship and adoptions.

Areas of Practice
FAMILY LAW
I represent both married and single individuals with family law related legal needs. This includes, but is not limited to, adoptions, prenuptial agreements, post-nuptial agreements, contested and uncontested divorces, child custody matters, paternity cases and child support modifications. With this experience, I have become comfortable with understanding intricacies of property arrangements, and the characterization of property as it relates to my clients situations and needs. Our office can help you with family law matters through litigation or mediation.
DIVORCE
Our office guides our clients through each step of the divorce process, including military divorces. We understand that no two marriages are the same, and therefore come up with a plan to meet the individual needs of each clients case. We strive to work with you to determine which issues can be resolved out of court, and which need to be brought in front of a judge. Our office can help guide you as you move forward towards the next chapter of your life.
CUSTODY
In matters where there is a dispute as to which parent will care for a child or children, we seek to assist our clients in achieving a parenting plan which will achieve our clients wishes and will be in the best interest of the children involved. We can provide you with support and guidance through your legal or physical custody case and assist you in making decisions that are right for you and your family.
PATERNITY
In cases where two parties are not married but have a child together, paternity must be established before making orders for custody. We can assist clients in obtaining a Judgment for Paternity and help establish orders for custody, visitation, and child support through the process of the paternity filing.
PRENUPTIAL/POSTNUPTIAL AGREEMENTS
Our office can help you protect your assets and avoid any future disagreement in regards to your finances, estate, or property. We can help with arranging either prenuptial or postnuptial agreements, and will work to ensure both parties are happy.
ADOPTIONS
Adopting a child is a joyous occasion, but can come with a myriad of legal matters that must be resolved. We will provide you guidance and work to make the growing of your family an exciting and painless event.
MEDIATION
Mediation is when two parties jointly hire a neutral third party to assist them in coming up with an amicable resolution to a divorce, custody, or support action, without needing to come in front of the courts. The key to a successful mediation is for each party to look for a solution or compromise for the family as a whole, rather than a victory over the other spouse, to which our office can help guide you.
MILITARY DIVORCE
Every marriage has its challenges, even more so when one party is in the military. Military couples experience unique difficulties in their relationships, and if the situation arises, in a military divorce. As a former Navy wife, I know the challenges of the process for a military divorce. All branches of the military fall under the jurisdiction of the Federal Government, making a military divorce different than a standard California process. We can assist clients during this difficult process, and any accompanying support and custody orders.
CONSERVATORSHIPS
Conservatorships can be appointed when an adult cannot fully care for themselves, whether because of age, disability, or an accident. Our office can help you with every step throughout the process of naming a conservator and aid you in deciding if a temporary, general, or limited conservatorship of the estate or of the person is the right choice in caring for your loved one.
SPECIAL NEEDS LIMITED CONSERVATORSHIPS
Parents of children with special needs are often not aware of the resources available to those children when they reach the age of legal adulthood. When a special needs child is unable to make medical and educational decisions for themselves, the parent may seek to remain the primary care giver and act as the conservator of their special needs adult child. I represent parents in all phases of a conservatorship matter so that they are able to continue to act as the guardian for their children into adulthood.
GUARDIANSHIPS
There are times that, for whatever reason, parents are unable to raise their children. This may be due to the death of the parents, drug addition, imprisonment, etc. In those circumstances, it is far better for the children to be cared for by a loving family member or close friends. We assist our clients in all aspects of guardianship matters, both opposed and unopposed.
CHILD SUPPORT
It is the requirement of both parties to provide for the support and maintenance for the minor children. We assist our clients in determining the appropriate amount of support payable by the high earner to the other parent.
SPOUSAL SUPPORT
Where one spouse has earned more income during the marriage, the Court may award spousal support [alimony] to the low earning spouse. There are numerous factors which go into the determination of a Spousal Support award.

Family
