We usually prepare simple estate plans on a flat fee basis. For complex estate plans, we generally quote a range of fees. We always review the client intake form and discuss planning goals before providing an individually tailored estimate for services.
For probate matters we typically charge according the the fee schedule laid out in the California Probate Code. For trust administration, we normally charge our hourly rate. Our fees for litigation are handled on a case-by-case basis. We accept ARAG legal insurance.

James M. O'Neil is a founding partner at O'Neil & Rueppel, LLP and practices Estate Planning and Real Estate Law. He focuses his practice on helping his clients plan to avoid problems in the future and solving problems they face now. John S. Rueppel focuses his practice preparing estate plans for individuals, couples (married and unmarried), and registered domestic partners in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is passionate about helping people prepare for life's challenging times. In addition to creating individualized estate plans that meet his client's needs, John also provides guidance with post-death trust administration and irrevocable trust amendment, as well as counseling personal representatives in probate matters. John represents clients in trust and probate litigation matters on a case-by-case basis.
John is a magna cum laude graduate of U.C. Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco, California. While there, he was the Comments and Briefs editor of the Science and Technology Law Journal. During law school, John externed at the California Court of Appeals for Justice James Lambden, where he drafted a published opinion. After law school and prior to founding O'Neil & Rueppel, LLP, John worked in the Law and Motion Department of the San Francisco Superior Court, under Judge Peter Busch.
Prior to law school, John was an elementary Montessori school teacher. His undergraduate degree is from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He lives with his wife and two sons in the Inner Richmond neighborhood of San Francisco.
