Estate Planning

Estate Planning Law Firm in Brunswick, Georgia

Preserving your family's wealth for future generations

Any time can be the right time to prepare a carefully considered estate plan. Whether you and your spouse are just starting out to raise a family, you are not married and want to ensure your assets are distributed according to your wishes, or you are a senior and want to transfer assets now, a skilled estate planning attorney from Nightingale, Liles, Dennard & Carmical can help.

We listen closely to your needs and your objectives. We review your assets and point out the decisions you need to make. We give you our recommendations, but the choices are always yours. We craft an estate plan that reflects your unique situation.

Tools we consider when helping you create an estate plan include the following:

Wills Designate beneficiaries of your estate, including a personal representative to manage the probate of your will and the distribution of your assets after death. You can name a guardian of minor children and establish a testamentary trust to provide for their benefit. If you die without a will, Georgia state law dictates the distribution of your assets.
Trusts Trusts grant legal ownership of assets to a party you designate. A Trustee would administer the assets put into a trust until they are distributed to the beneficiaries you designate. A Trustee can be an individual or an institution, such as a bank. Trusts can protect your assets and minimize taxes while providing for your loved ones.
Living Trusts Living trusts can be revocable or irrevocable. With a revocable trust, you are able to change it or terminate it during your lifetime. An irrevocable trust can only be modified with court approval.
Testamentary Trusts A testamentary trust can be established in your Last Will and Testament.
Special Needs Trusts Appoint a Trustee to hold assets for the benefit of a disabled child or incapacitated adult.
Charitable Trusts Designate funds to an existing charity.
Family Trusts Safeguard your assets within your family and gain certain tax advantages.
Pet Trusts Protect the well-being of your beloved pets by designating assets and a Trustee for their care after your passing.
Life Insurance Trusts
V.A. Trusts
Advance Health Care Directives Stipulate preferred medical treatment in case there comes a point in time when you are unable to speak for yourself.
Powers of Attorney Designate a trusted individual to manage your property and sign legal documents for you when you are not able.
