Bankruptcy
Moran Law is a firm of experienced attorneys that can stop a wage garnishment, stop creditor harassment, eliminate or consolidate credit card debt, consolidate student loan debt & stop foreclosure. We specialize in Chapter 7 & 13 bankruptcies.
When you take your bankruptcy case to Moran Law, you'll reach a team of experienced, professional, and above all, caring attorneys who will go above & beyond to handle your case.

We help good people through bad times. We want to get you the fresh financial start you deserve.

We accept cases from across Michigan, and have two offices, which are located in Royal Oak and Flint.

What are your policies about dividing work within the firm to make the process most cost-effective for the client?

My work experience in many different areas of the country has given me a diverse look at the world. I also went to very large and diverse colleges which gave me a chance to interact with people from all walks of life.

How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?

I decided to go into bankruptcy because I wanted to help people get a fresh start and be able to live their lives without so much worry. Our clients are hardworking individuals and it is heartbreaking that something as sudden as job loss or a medical illness could cause them to lose everything they have.

Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?

The best part of my career is when clients reach the end of the process and are so relieved to have the extra weight off their back. It's a good feeling knowing that I played a part in helping people get back on their feet.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

At our office we have two attorneys, a legal assistant, and a law clerk. We are all incredibly knowledgeable and I can honestly say that I have the best staff in the world. They are all so attentive and helpful. I have seen them all go to the greatest lengths to help clients in a friendly and upbeat manner. They are able to give each client undivided attention and assistance.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

It is of the greatest importance that clients are comfortable with the entire process. As a firm we are able to explain all the complexities and would never burden our clients with trying to make sense of it all by themselves.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

We would be happy to look over any documents that clients bring in and would give advice as to how they should move forward and what their next step should be.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

We would never try to talk someone into a bankruptcy or doing something they do not feel comfortable with. We are here to make this process as painless as possible. If bankruptcy is not the right option for a client, we will help them determine what other options are available.

Josh Mahoney

"A lot of our clients come through the door expecting that we are only concerned with the numbers. One of the things I like best about this firm is it isn't all all numbers. It's about being able to connect with clients, put yourself in their shoes and apply the law in a way that best serves them."

Josh, attorney at Moran Law, graduated from the Detroit Mercy School of Law where he received the CALI Award, Book Award for Small Firm Practice and also earned the Detroit Mercy School of Law Dean's Scholarship.

While at Detroit Mercy, Josh served as the law clerk for the Honorable Judge Denis LeDuc at the 42-1 District Court in Romeo, Michigan.

Josh received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in History and a minor in Political Science from Oakland University.

While not assisting clients in their bankruptcy cases, Josh enjoys soccer. He played throughout his college career for the Golden Grizzlies.

Rachel Hawrylo

"I love being a solution for people who really need my help. Now that my husband and I have an 8 month old of our own, I have a very healthy respect for what my own mother went through as a single parent. Financially, I know it was a long uphill battle. I am able to have a major impact on the lives of clients. We don't just give them hope- we're able to give people in the midst of financial crisis a fresh start."

Prior to joining Moran Law Offices as an attorney, Rachel practiced law in San Diego, California where she represented Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy debtors and consumers in Fair Debt Collection Practices Act cases. Rachel graduated Cum Laude from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, California where she received both the Witkin Award, CALI Award, and Jefferson Medal for Property I and Insurance Law and also earned the Thomas Jefferson School of Law Deans Scholarship. During law school, Rachel worked as a research assistant for the chair of the Legal Writing Department.

Rachel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a major in Economics and a minor in legal studies from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan where she was the recipient of the Central Michigan University Board of Trustees Scholarship. While attending CMU, Rachel studied abroad for a semester in Cairns, Australia at James Cook University.

Rachel is an adjunct professor at Central Michigan University. She teaches undergraduate Regulatory Law and Legal Environment of Business.

Ryan Moldovan

"Representing the underdog and people who are down on their luck is very gratifying. Plus, since I'm able to use the experience I've had representing creditors to my client's advantage, I'm able to see things that other attorneys don't see. I'm able to achieve real life-changing results for my clients and I love that about my work."

Ryan, attorney at Moran Law, loves the small firm atmosphere where he has developed strong relationships with his coworkers. He likes not having to deal with big firm politics so he can focus his energy and his time on serving clients. With a growing family to support Ryan is keenly aware of how a job loss (or other life event like divorce or medical issues) can impact a family. He has been through it himself and can empathize.

Ryan has extensive experience representing both debtors and creditors in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 cases. Prior to joining Moran Law Offices, Ryan represented mortgage creditors' rights in bankruptcy in both the eastern and western districts of Michigan. Ryan received his law degree from Michigan State University College of Law, where he graduated cum laude with a concentration in Intellectual Property and Communications Law. Ryan received his B.A. Sociology from the University of Michigan.

Joe Liang

"I work with our clients throughout the entire bankruptcy process. I am their resource for questions along the way. I am able to create a connection in a situation where people may not want to open up to attorneys. As a coordinator, I get a chance to dissolve that distrust and help our clients feel comfortable. I have made some very strong connections with our clients and I love being at this firm for primarily that reason."

Joe Liang, bankruptcy coordinator, started at Moran Law as an intern before becoming hired as a full time Legal Assistant/IT Manager. Having just graduated from Oakland University with a B.A. in Philosophy, he is now happily using the skills he learned from school to help out our clients here in the office. He is beginning to work on his law school applications now, and hoping to be attending in the Fall of 2014.

He is an avid reader, enjoys looking as dapper as possible and has a thing for bow ties.

Lauren Bauman

"I love the upbeat, fast-paced environment. We're helping people- it's challenging, but worth it."

Lauren has worked at Moran Law since August of 2013. She graduated from Syracruse University with a B.A. in English & Textual Studies and plans on attending law school in the near future.

At Moran Law, she is a Student Loan Consultant. She helps people hit with student loans to make the process easier.

When not consulting with clients on how to handle their student debt, Lauren enjoys reading, running, kayaking, and playing guitar.
