Firm Overview

Who you work with to get you through this difficult time is a VERY important decision.

We believe that it's important that you find not only an experienced Bankruptcy lawyer who knows how to get you a fresh start, but one who is committed to serving you throughout the entire process, committed to consistent and clear communication, and focused on your best interests 100% of the time.

Did you know that the idea of bankruptcy -- of every person deserving a "fresh start" -- was put into our Constitution by the Founding Fathers? They wanted to make sure that everyone had the same opportunity for a second chance at prosperity. Doesn't that make you feel good: that the founders of our country wrote in bankruptcy protection from the beginning? And it is protection; protection against people and businesses that take advantage of consumers; protection against unforeseeable circumstances; protection against illness, natural disaster and unplanned events. Of course, a law can't stop something bad from happening to you, but it can stop the hurt from continuing and give you the relief you need to get out from under the situation. If you need help deciding when to file bankruptcy, Moran law can help.

The History of Bankruptcy

Bankruptcy isn't a modern concept; the need to give citizens a second chance has been around for thousands of years. The oldest written record of bankruptcy comes from King Hammurabi, the ruler of Babylon in 1760 B.C. While "The Code of Hammurabi" lists many harsh punishments for various crimes, it offers a debtor the chance to pay off his debt in three years.

"At the end of every seven years you must cancel debts. This is how it is to be done: Every creditor shall cancel the loan he has made to his fellow Israelite. He shall not require payment from his fellow Israelite or brother, because the Lord's time for cancelling debts has been proclaimed."
            - Deuteronomy, 15:1-2

About Our Founder

Ryan B. Moran, Esq. is the founder of Moran Law in Royal Oak, MI, where he practices bankruptcy law exclusively.

"For me, founding this firm was about creating a great work life experience. I wanted to surround myself with the smartest people and create a culture where everyone is excited to come to work and believes in what they're doing.

I think we've achieved that here. I'm a smart, very capable attorney, but in many ways, my staff is way ahead of me. These are the sharpest and most committed attorneys I've ever known. I'm really proud of the team we've built. And I haven't stopped at simply hiring the best.

I'm committed to constant improvement of our knowledge, processes, customer service, and business practices. We're always improving every single day. And I can tell that our clients really appreciate the level of excellence we commit ourselves to with every single case.

Often times, when our clients first meet us, they've been beaten up by their creditors. They're confused, scared, and somewhat lonely- at least as it pertains to the financial crisis they're facing. It can be very isolating to face a mountain of debt that you're powerless to tackle on your own. It's a wonderful thing to be the solution to so many people who are in these tough situations (pending foreclosures, wage garnishments, credit card debt, medical bills, repossessions, etc.).

And it's an amazing feeling watching their lives transform as they come out of crisis with a fresh start. Most of our bankruptcy clients are able to qualify for home and car loans within 2 years. That's another thing we help them do. We're not just experts at helping them get out of trouble. We help them rebuild- fast."

Bankruptcy
Moran Law is a firm of experienced attorneys that can stop a wage garnishment, stop creditor harassment, eliminate or consolidate credit card debt, consolidate student loan debt & stop foreclosure. We specialize in Chapter 7 & 13 bankruptcies.
When you take your bankruptcy case to Moran Law, you'll reach a team of experienced, professional, and above all, caring attorneys who will go above & beyond to handle your case.

We help good people through bad times. We want to get you the fresh financial start you deserve.

We accept cases from across Michigan, and have two offices, which are located in Royal Oak and Flint.

What are your policies about dividing work within the firm to make the process most cost-effective for the client?

My work experience in many different areas of the country has given me a diverse look at the world. I also went to very large and diverse colleges which gave me a chance to interact with people from all walks of life.

How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?

I decided to go into bankruptcy because I wanted to help people get a fresh start and be able to live their lives without so much worry. Our clients are hardworking individuals and it is heartbreaking that something as sudden as job loss or a medical illness could cause them to lose everything they have.

Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?

The best part of my career is when clients reach the end of the process and are so relieved to have the extra weight off their back. It's a good feeling knowing that I played a part in helping people get back on their feet.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

At our office we have two attorneys, a legal assistant, and a law clerk. We are all incredibly knowledgeable and I can honestly say that I have the best staff in the world. They are all so attentive and helpful. I have seen them all go to the greatest lengths to help clients in a friendly and upbeat manner. They are able to give each client undivided attention and assistance.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

It is of the greatest importance that clients are comfortable with the entire process. As a firm we are able to explain all the complexities and would never burden our clients with trying to make sense of it all by themselves.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

We would be happy to look over any documents that clients bring in and would give advice as to how they should move forward and what their next step should be.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

We would never try to talk someone into a bankruptcy or doing something they do not feel comfortable with. We are here to make this process as painless as possible. If bankruptcy is not the right option for a client, we will help them determine what other options are available.

Josh Mahoney

"A lot of our clients come through the door expecting that we are only concerned with the numbers. One of the things I like best about this firm is it isn't all all numbers. It's about being able to connect with clients, put yourself in their shoes and apply the law in a way that best serves them."

"I love being a solution for people who really need my help. Now that my husband and I have an 8 month old of our own, I have a very healthy respect for what my own mother went through as a single parent. Financially, I know it was a long uphill battle. I am able to have a major impact on the lives of clients. We don't just give them hope- we're able to give people in the midst of financial crisis a fresh start."

Prior to joining Moran Law Offices as an attorney, Rachel practiced law in San Diego, California where she represented Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy debtors and consumers in Fair Debt Collection Practices Act cases.
