Criminal Defense
I specialize in criminal defense and appeals.
Small general practice firm handling criminal defense, appeals, personal injury, family law, guardianships, and other miscellaneous matters.

Is your firm willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?

Yes, subject to the conditions of our fee agreement.

What are your policies about dividing work within the firm to make the process most cost-effective for the client?

When my clients come to my firm and hire me, I am the one who meets with them and represents them in court unless a different agreement is specifically negotiated with a given client.

How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?

We do not discourage our clients from participating in mediation services when such services are appropriate. In family law cases, we encourage such participation in about half of the cases.

Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?

I have provided, and continue to provide, pro bono representation to military veterans charged with criminal offenses on a case-by-case basis. I frequently offer reduced rates exclusively in family law matters to clients referred to me by the Women's Center for Advancement in Omaha, Nebraska.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

Michael J. Wilson practices law with the prominent firm of Schaefer Shapiro, LLP, a firm known throughout Nebraska for its talented and aggressive attorneys. When you come to Mr. Wilson seeking representation in any matter, criminal or civil, you will quickly realize that he really listens to you and places your priorities above all others. Indeed, where a strong attorney-client relationship forms the foundation for achieving the best results in court, Mr. Wilson will provide you with the high level of attention and respect that you deserve, regardless of the fee amount.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I encourage people to educate themselves on the issues affecting their cases so they will be better prepared to ask tough questions of their attorneys.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Yes, subject to the conditions of our fee agreement.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

No.
