Steven Bell

Steven Kenneth Bell, Esquire graduated from the University of Florida in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in Advertising. Immediately after graduation, Mr. Bell matriculated into law school at Nova Southeastern University's Sheppard Broad Law Center. In 2004, Mr. Bell earned his juris doctor and graduated Magna Cum Laude, an achievement of one the highest honors reserved for law students graduating in the top 3% of the graduating class. While in law school, Mr. Bell eagerly began his path toward defending those accused of crimes. He later worked as a Supreme Court Certified Legal Intern with the Broward County Public Defender's Office, which allowed him to try both felony and misdemeanor trials before ever becoming a member of the Florida Bar.

Mr. Bell was also one of a select few elite law students elected to Nova Southeastern University Law Review and was also recognized by becoming published in the field of criminal law before ever becoming a lawyer. Upon his graduation from law school, Mr. Bell was given the honor of becoming a member of the Order of Barristers, an honor given only to nine members of his graduating class.

Upon his legal internship with the Broward Public Defender's Office ending, Mr. Bell was hired as an Assistant Public Defender in Broward County based upon his trial work and skills exhibited during his legal internship. He was awarded for his outstanding work and litigation as a certified legal intern by the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. As an Assistant Public Defender, Mr. Bell vigorously defended and tried hundreds of cases ranging from simple misdemeanors such as DUI, Trespass and Battery to the most complex and severe felony cases.

Mr. Bell quickly rose through the ranks of the Broward County Public Defender's Office and was promoted to Felony Public Defender in the Circuit Court within one year of being hired. He became a lead Assistant Public Defender in more than one Felony division and was assigned to the most dangerous offenders. Mr. Bell was again promoted based upon his trial skills, knowledge of the law, and reputation with his office to Assistant Public Defender in Charge of the Juvenile Division, one of the youngest lawyers ever to be promoted to such a position. Mr. Bell entered private practice in 2007. Since that time, Mr. Bell has defended thousands of people accused of misdemeanor and felony offenses throughout the entire State of Florida.

In 2008, Mr. Bell was hired to run the entire legal operation of The Ticket Clinic, A Law Firm in Palm Beach County. As lead attorney for that office, Mr. Bell handled thousands of criminal cases ranging from the most simple traffic matters to felonies punishable by life in Florida State Prison. During his time with the firm, Mr. Bell tried countless DUI cases through verdict as lead trial counsel. Throughout his career, Mr. Bell has addressed every legal issue surrounding DUI and traffic offenses and was able to use certain strategies learned as an Assistant Public Defender against the State to have non-DUI related felonies and misdemeanors dismissed.

Mr. Bell's position with The Ticket Clinic, A Law Firm required his dedication to defending DUI clients throughout the State of Florida. While working for the firm, Mr. Bell represented and clients in the following counties: Broward, Dade, Monroe, Palm Beach, Duval, Volusia, Pinellas, Hillsborough, Marion ,Alachua, Flagler, Escambia, Holmes, Leon, Highlands and Hendry County.

In 2005, Mr. Bell first met his law partner, Lawrence Meltzer, who was an Assistant State Attorney assigned to the very same courtroom while still employed as an Assistant Public Defender. After trying cases against one another, Mr. Bell and Mr. Meltzer respect for one another grew based on each other's trial skill, reliability, work ethic, and overall professionalism. It became clear that each had a shared vision of what a lawyer, and a law firm, should be. Thus, ultimately, the law firm of Meltzer & Bell, P.A. was born.

Lawrence Meltzer

Lawrence Michael Meltzer, Esquire graduated from The American University in Washington, D.C. in 1994 with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. After working in the private sector for two years, Mr. Meltzer was accepted into Nova Southeastern University's Sheppard Broad Law Center in August, 1996. Mr. Meltzer graduated from Nova Southeastern University School of Law and achieved his juris doctor in May of 1999.

After graduating from law school, Mr. Meltzer practiced civil law until 2001, when he was offered the position of Assistant State Attorney with the Broward County State Attorney's Office in the field of criminal law, an area that he passionately devoted himself to. Mr. Meltzer's tenure with the State Attorney's Office began in the County Court Division in which he prosecuted misdemeanor crimes such as DUI and Driving While License Suspended, as well as other significant criminal traffic offenses such as Reckless Driving, Battery, Assault, Thefts, and Juvenile Delinquency/Dependency related crimes. During his time in county court, Mr. Meltzer tried over 60 jury trials (mostly DUI offenses) through verdict as a County Court Prosecutor. This experience allowed him to develop an extensive knowledge of DUI law and the specific defenses employed in issues dealing with breath testing, urine testing, blood testing, impairment by alcohol, and other DUI matters.

In January, 2003, Mr. Meltzer was promoted from an Assistant State Attorney in the County Court to Felony Prosecutor. Mr. Meltzer quickly advanced through the Felony Trial Unit from a Third Degree Felony Prosecutor to a Lead Felony Prosecutor where he prosecuted crimes of extreme violence, including armed robbery, armed kidnapping, manslaughter and murder, as well as drug trafficking cases. Many of these cases involved career criminal defendants, including Habitual Felony Offenders, Prison Release Re-offenders, and Habitual Violent Offenders.

Mr. Meltzer participated in over 45 felony trials through verdict during his tenure in the Felony Trial Unit, which included trials for Felony DUI, DUI With Serious Bodily Injury, Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Death or Injury, Murder, Armed Robbery with a Firearm, Armed Kidnapping, and Drug Trafficking. Mr. Meltzer was then elevated to a Special Unit Prosecutor in the Sexual Battery Unit in February, 2005 where he prosecuted and tried capital sexual offenders and those accused of heinous sex crimes.

Mr. Meltzer decided to leave his position as a Sexual Battery Special Unit Prosecutor in August of 2005 and began to dedicate his career to defending those accused of Driving Under the Influence and criminal traffic offenses. In September 2005, Mr. Meltzer was hired as lead trial counsel for the Broward Offices of The Ticket Clinic, a Law Firm. During his tenure with The Ticket Clinic, a Law Firm, Mr. Meltzer defended thousands of clients accused of misdemeanor and felony Driving Under the Influence charges, as well as many other criminal and traffic offenses. Mr. Meltzer also created a bank of thousands of Motions related to the defense of his accused clients that addressed a wide range of legal issues associated with the areas of DUI and traffic offenses. During his time with the firm, Mr. Meltzer took over 110 cases to jury trial, which included trying cases with breath results, urine results, and traffic crashes. While at the Ticket Clinic, a Law Firm, Mr. Meltzer excelled due to his devotion to giving each client personal attention, being more prepared than everyone in the courtroom, fighting hard, and acting with the utmost professionalism at all times.

After 6 years, Mr. Meltzer was hired at Parks & Braxton, P.A., a law firm dedicated to defending DUI throughout the State of Florida. While with the firm of Parks & Braxton, Mr. Meltzer defended criminal and DUI clients and tried criminal and DUI cases throughout the entire state of Florida. Mr. Meltzer went to trial and handled cases in the following counties: Broward, Collier, Dade, Monroe, Palm Beach, Brevard, Duval, Pinellas, Hillsborough, Citrus, Marion, Hernando, Orange, Seminole, St. John's, Alachua, Flagler and Hamilton.

Mr. Meltzer first met Steven Bell as an Assistant Public Defender where he was assigned to the very same courtroom in 2005. After trying cases against one another, Mr. Meltzer and Mr. Bell's respect grew based on each other's legal acumen, superior work ethic, trial skill and overall legal professionalism.
