How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

Originally it chose me. In the mid 1980's, most lawyers in Troy wouldn't touch bankruptcy. I was willing to do it. Gradually, it grew until it became my entire practice.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

Clients need to understand the legal process. Clients who do their own research frequently become convinced that certain rules of law are the opposite of what they really are; many of these cannot be brought back to reality.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I want to prepare my own documents.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Minimal at best.

Marc S. Ehrlich

I worked for Julian & Pertz in Utica from 1983-1984. Since I set up my own firm in 1984, I have held part-time non-bankruptcy positions:

• Rensselaer County Assistant Public Defender 1984-1988
• Counsel NYS Assembly Ways and Means 1988-1993
• Counsel to Rensselaer county legislature 2005-2010

Law is something that can be practiced at its own pace. It has a rhythm and a heartbeat. I work at bankruptcy law 7 days a week. Put time into it every day and the results for the clients speak for themselves.

I am very hands on. I work on some aspect of every single file. I have more product knowledge regarding bankruptcy than most. Clients immediately recognize when they meet with me that I know the material and their cases inside and out.

My hobbies are watching sporting events and walking on a treadmill.
