Our Estate Planning Attorneys have significant expertise in the preparation of estate planning documents, such as wills, revocable living trusts, and all of the multitude of trusts used for the transfer of wealth and charitable giving. In addition, our attorneys have particular knowledge and expertise in the area of "special needs" trusts for developmentally disabled persons.

Michael E. Lonich

Michael E. Lonich is the managing partner of Lonich & Patton and has nearly 30 years of experience representing a wide range of businesses and individuals. His practice concentrates on Estate Planning, Business Law and divorce mediation.

Mike draws upon his expertise and the firm's resources to partner with individuals and families to develop comprehensive estate plans and successfully represent clients in trust administration and probate litigation. From the creation of a simple will to a complex trust, family limited liability partnership or business succession plan, maximizing financial benefits as well as ensuring the peace of mind that an estate plan brings to an individual or family is always Mike's goal. Whether a client needs revisions to current documents (will, trust, power of attorney, health care directive POD accounts, etc) or has no plan in place, Mike is prepared to help clients create a comprehensive estate plan that suits their needs and concerns.

Mike is a member of the State Bar of California, the Association of Defense Counsel and the Santa Clara County Bar Association. He also serves on the temporary judge and arbitrator panels of the Santa Clara County Superior Court. Mike is admitted to practice before all California courts, including the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals and the Federal District Court for the Northern, Central and Southern Districts of California

David Patton

David Patton is a Family Law Specialist as certified by The State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization, limiting his practice to family law exclusively. He heads the firm's family law practice.

Mr. Patton has 22 years experience as a trial lawyer, spending his early years focusing on insurance defense and plaintiff's personal injury cases. After co-founding Lonich & Patton in 1994, Mr. Patton developed the firm's family law practice. Since then, he has become one of Silicon Valley's top family law attorneys.

Mr. Patton is a member of the Santa Clara County Bar Association, where he is a member of the family law section, and the State Bar of California. He is admitted to practice in all California Courts, including the Federal District Court and U.S. Court of Appeals. Mr. Patton has been appointed by the Santa Clara Superior Court to act as a judge pro-tem (volunteer judge) and arbitrator. He has acted as a private judge and mediator as well.

Gina Policastri

Gina Policastri is a Family Law Specialist as certified by The State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization, and partner at Lonich & Patton, LLP, where she has worked since graduating from Santa Clara University School of Law in 2003.

Ms. Policastri uses her persuasive writing skills, familiarity with the Santa Clara County family court system and psychology background to effectively litigate cases on behalf of her clients. She handles all areas of family law including high conflict custody cases, complex business valuation and asset division issues and complicated child and spousal support matters.

Ms. Policastri is a member of the State Bar of California and the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California. She is also a member of the Santa Clara County Bar Association (including the Family Law Section).

Mitchell Ehrlich

Mitchell Ehrlich was made a Partner at Lonich & Patton in 2007. He practices exclusively in the firm's Family Law practice, handling a wide variety of family law issues, including dissolution, legal separation, property division issues, custody and support disputes, parentage claims, post-judgment matters and pre and post-nuptial agreements.

In addition, he became a California Certified Family Law Specialist as certified by The State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization in 2009 and since has co-headed the Family Law Practice with co-founder David Patton.

Mitch also volunteers his time to serve as a Temporary Judge for the Santa Clara County Superior Court Family Court and Traffic Court and as an Arbitrator for the Santa Clara County Bar Association's Attorney Client Fee Disputes Division. He was previously a volunteer Temporary Judge with the Santa Clara County Superior Court Civil Division and was Chair of the City of San Jose Traffic Appeals Commission from 1999 through 2004.

Mr. Ehrlich also volunteers his time with the Pro Bono Association's Lawyers in the Library Program as well as handling Pro Bono cases time permitting. Mr. Ehrlich is admitted to practice before all California courts, including the North Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals and the Federal District Court for the Northern, Central and Southern Districts of California.

Julia Lemon

Julia Lemon became an associate at Lonich and Patton in November 2007. She supports all major practice areas of the firm, with a special interest in Family Law matters. Julia began her relationship with the firm as a second year law clerk in 2005.

Julia was raised in San Jose and attended Presentation High School. Thereafter, she attended the University of California at Davis where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. In 2004, Julia graduated with honors and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, earning a Bachelor's Degree with a major in Sociology and a minor in Spanish.

Julia returned to the Bay Area after graduation to attend Santa Clara University School of Law. At Santa Clara University, Julia was a member of the Dean's List and Phi Delta Phi and received the CALI Excellence for the Future award for her work in Appellate Advocacy. She also interned for the Honorable Leonard P. Edwards in Santa Clara County 's Juvenile Dependency Court and served as a tutor for Santa Clara School of Law's Academic Success Program. Julia earned her Juris Doctorate in 2007.

Julia was admitted to the California Bar in November 2007. She is a member of the Santa Clara County Bar Association.

Jennifer Mispagel

Jennifer grew up in San Jose and graduated from Santa Clara University with a Bachelors of Science in Political Science in 2003. She also received her Juris Doctorate and her Masters in Business Administration from as well in 2008. She received both the Witkin and CALI Awards in Community Property as well as the American Bankruptcy Institute Certificate of Excellence in Bankruptcy for her academic achievement in those courses.

While in law school,she honed her legal and business skills working as a law clerk for more than three years in the areas of family law, business, finance and estate planning.She has found that the combination of her MBA and law degree provides her with a unique perspective that allows her to focus her practice on the three interrelated disciplines of business law, family law and estate planning.

Jennifer is a member of the State Bar of California and the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California. She is also a member of the Santa Clara County Bar Association, including the Barristers and Family Law Sections.

Kathrine Jane French

Kathrine Jane French has been practicing family law exclusively since December of 2008. Ms. French joined Lonich & Patton in September 2012. Ms. French received her Juris Doctorate from University of California, Hastings in San Francisco, California. During her tenure at Hastings, Ms. French wrote two papers on family law issues, including, "The Mommy Track: Why Cant We Have it All? A Research Pathfinder about the Work/Life Conflict," and "Ethical Considerations in Collaborative Family Law." Ms. French is committed to pursuing meditative and collaborative resolutions to family law issues, especially in cases where children are affected.

Ms. French demonstrates great care and compassion in handling the complex emotional and legal issues which are unique to family law matters. Ms. French approaches her cases with the belief that the way her clients feel about her representation namely, that they are being heard, understood and cared for, is just as important as getting good results.

Ms. French brings exceptional organizational and case management skills to all of her cases and is a highly skilled legal researcher, writer and creative thinker.

Linda Chen

Linda Chen joined Lonich & Patton in 2011 as a second-year law clerk, and is currently awaiting her California Bar Examination results. Linda supports all major practice areas of the firm.

Linda was born and raised in San Francisco, and attended Lowell High School. After graduation, Linda moved to the south bay to attend Santa Clara University where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Spanish in 2007.

In 2012, Linda obtained her Juris Doctorate from Santa Clara University School of Law. During law school, Linda earned a position on the Law Reviews Board of Editors after submitting her legal comment,Eradicating Elder Abuse in California Nursing Homes.She was also elected to serve as Editor-in-Chief for Volume 52 and her Comment was published in the first issue. Linda received both the Witkin Award for Academic Excellence and CALI Excellence for the Future Award for excelling in her Legal Analysis, Research and Writing and Appellate Advocacy courses, respectively.

In addition to her clerking experience at Lonich & Patton, Linda externed for the Honorable Jacqueline Duong of the Santa Clara County Superior Court and Justice Nathan Mihara of the California Court of Appeal.
