Livesay & Myers, P.C. was founded in 2003 and has grown steadily since, establishing a long record of successful results and client satisfaction. James Livesay

James Livesay is a founding partner at Livesay & Myers, P.C. He leads the firm's team of family law attorneys across offices in Fairfax, Leesburg, Manassas and Fredericksburg, Virginia.

After graduating from the prestigious University of Virginia School of Law in 1998, Mr. Livesay served in the U.S. Navy JAG Corps from 1998 to 2001. Mr. Livesay entered civilian practice as a family law attorney in 2001, and joined with partner Kevin Myers to found Livesay & Myers in 2003.

Drawing on his experience as a Navy JAG officer, James Livesay established the military divorce section of the firm in 2003 and has guided it since that time. His article, "Treatment of Disability Pay in Military Divorce," has been published on a number of online divorce websites, including Divorce Headquarters and WomansDivorce.com.

Matthew Smith

Matthew Smith is a junior partner at Livesay & Myers, P.C., practicing exclusively family law. He is experienced in handling every type of family law matter in Virginia, including separation, divorce, custody and support cases. Mr. Smith works in the firm's Fairfax office, and represents clients in Fairfax, Alexandria, Arlington and all across Northern Virginia.

An attorney since 2005, Mr. Smith has litigated every type of family law case in the courts of Northern Virginia, including high value equitable distribution cases, custody, support, and military divorce cases. He is the attorney in the firm most experienced in navigating the Fairfax County court system.

One of the firm's most knowledgeable military divorce lawyers, Matthew Smith is intimately familiar with issues of military retirement, the Uniformed Services Former Spouses Protection Act, the Survivor Benefit Plan, disability pay, and the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act.

In August 2016, Mr. Smith was selected by his peers for inclusion in the 23rd Edition of The Best Lawyers in America for his work in Family Law. Best Lawyers is the oldest and most highly-respected peer review guide to the legal profession worldwide.

Jennifer Varughese

Jennifer Varughese is a junior partner at Livesay & Myers, P.C., practicing exclusively immigration law. A first-generation Indian-American, she has personal knowledge of the immigrant experience. Ms. Varughese has represented clients from over 115 countries and in every type of immigration law matter, including complicated cases related to citizenship, deportation, family-based and employment-based green cards, waivers and nonimmigrant visas. She has been noted for her work in the field of the immigration consequences of criminal convictions, receiving recognition in both the legal community and in the press.

Ms. Varughese has experience arguing before both federal and state courts, resulting in three published opinions: Hussain v. Gonzales, 477 F.3d 153 (4th Cir. 2007); Markovski v. Gonzales, 486 F.3d 108 (4th Cir. 2007); and Commonwealth v. Morris, 281 Va. 70 (Va. 2011).

A zealous advocate who is also deeply committed to her community, Ms. Varughese was named the Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year (2010) in Fairfax County, Virginia by the Fairfax Bar Association. She is also a Fairfax County Elections Officer.

Ms. Varughese was named a Super Lawyers Virginia Rising Star and Washington D.C. Rising Star in 20152017. She received the Client Distinction Award from Martindale-Hubbell in 2015, and currently holds a perfect 10.0 rating from Avvo.
