Jay Goodman

Jay Goodman is the CEO of Lightning Legal Group, P.C. Jay's mission is to provide high quality, low cost legal services to facilitate a better future for those he serves. Using the principles of dedication to client empowerment with a comprehensive view of the client's past, present and future. Jay has been providing superior legal services for three decades.

Family Law, Asset Protection Planning, Business, Real Estate, Grandparents Rights, Collaborative Practice, Estate Planning, Probate, Elder, and Guardianship/Conservatorships.


Jay is licensed to practice law in New Mexico, Ohio, and Texas. He is admitted to practice law before the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, the United States District Court of New Mexico, and the United States Court of Appeals, 6th Circuit.


Jay received his Juris Doctor from the Capital University School of Law in Columbus, Ohio in 1986 and completed his undergraduate training at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1983.

Peter Bruso


Mr. Bruso began his legal career as a full-time Assistant County Prosecutor in 1974, serving in the capacity for eight years. That was followed by twenty-four years in private practice, working primarily in Criminal Defense, family Law, Civil Rights Claims and General Civil Practice. Mr. Bruso was a Certified Family Law Economic Mediator and served for years on the New Jersey Supreme Court District Ethics Committee investigation Complaints of attorney ethic violations. He also served as a member of the US District Court Criminal Justice Act Panel, regularly representing indigent individuals charged with federal crimes.


Mr. Bruso is licensed to practice law in New Mexico and New Jersey and is admitted to practice before the United State District Court, District of New Mexico, the Us District Court, District of New Jersey, the Ninth Circuit US Court of Appeals and the Third Circuit US Court of Appeals.


After three years of service in the US Army as a Counterintelligence Agent from 1968 to 1971, Mr. Bruso attended Boston University School of Law in Boston, Massachusetts, receiving his Juris Doctorate degree in 1974. He completed his undergraduate education at West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Mr. Bruso concentrates his practice primarily in Family Law, Criminal Defense and general Civil Practice.

Mr. Bruso and his wife are the owners of the Old Boarding House Mercantile, the historic General Store in Madrid, New Mexico.

Christie Coleman


Ms. Coleman is licensed to practice law in the states of New Mexico and California.


Ms. Coleman received her Juris Doctor from Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles, California where she was an editor for the International Law Journal and a teaching assistant. She completed her undergraduate training at University of California Berkeley.


Ms. Coleman clerked for a national law firm throughout law school, where she focused on civil litigation for their Los Angeles and New York offices. She has worked at Lightning Legal Group, PC since the fall of 2013 assisting attorneys in nearly all areas of the firm's practice.

Betsy Salcedo

Betsy was raised in the Los Angeles area and in the Four Corners and has a wide cultural background that serves to optimize the experience of our clients.


Family law attorney, Betsy Salcedo graduated from UNM Law in May 2002 and has been a member of the NM Bar since September 2002.

Areas of legal emphasis:

Her areas of practice are diverse, from criminal defense as a Public Defender, to representation of state actors and administrative matters with the New Mexico Attorney General, to domestic relations cases with the Human Services Dept, Child Support Division.

Prior Experience:

Betsy has also received certification in mediation and is interested in working to improve the bar. Betsy is a member of the State Supreme Court, Professionalism Committee and works to improve the Rules of Professional Conduct.

Finally, Betsy is a recipient of the UNM Indian Law Certification upon graduation from UNM Law and has served tribal affairs, working for DNA Legal Services and the Pueblo of Isleta.
Betsy joined the team of family law attorneys at Lightning Legal Group in June 2015.

Vanessa DeNiro


Ms. DeNiro is licensed to practice in the State of New Mexico and in the United States Federal District Court, District of New Mexico.


Ms. DeNiro is a law school graduate from California Western School of Law, San Diego, CA and received her BA at the University of California, Riverside.

Areas of legal emphasis:

Ms. DeNiro fervently represents her clients in legal matters involving divorce and child custody proceedings, real property law, foreclosure defense and additional areas of law. Her professional affiliations include the New Mexico Hispanic Bar Association, the Voluntary Attorney Pool, "VAP", and the Trust & Estates Division.


Ms. DeNiro lives in Albuquerque, NM with her sons Truth and Justus.
